Cake Baker Recommendations

I would love some wedding cake baker recommendations!! We've got 200 guests. Would it be crazy to try and not pay more than $300?

Thank you!

That sounds a little tight for that many guests. I think the lowest starting price I've seen was 3.50 per slice. Our cake wound up being 450, including tax and delivery, for only 100 people and we were hoping to keep it around $300 (we also opted for a very simple design). We went to The Royal Cakery.

Someone told me that Gambino's is the cheapest, and I also saw that Dornaq's does wedding cakes.  I haven't priced cakes yet, but I am definitely trying to keep the cost down. Please let me know what you find!

That is tight we got quoted about $400 for from both swiss and haydels for 200 people and abot 350 for 150 people. Not including any "decorations" or even fondant, they charge SO much for fondant. I hate how it tastes.

I hate the fondant too. We aren't having it.

We are using Gambino's and are paying about $675 for a cake for 220 ppl...but I will say that we are probably ordering the most expensive cake they have!  It's 4 tier with fondant and different flavors and fillings and decorations etc...I think you could easily get something there for half what we paid, we splurged!  I've also heard good things about Haydel's and from the prices I've researched, I think Gambino's and Haydel's are your best bet for staying on your budget.

    Haydel's was $382  for 200 people and I think Swiss about $390ish

then for this cake they had on display they wanted to charge  $450 for triple fondant  plus $100 for the other decorations
it ws going to be $932.84 total, but i guess the cake was pretty fancy it wasn't the standard cake. it was only 3 tiers though. I wasn't impressed with the way their cake tasted. it was dry  and none of the fillings tasted great except for the raspberry. the rest had no taste

swiss' cake was fresh and fluffy, and really good. worth the frew extra dollars. (you can only go there thursday or friday) The cake there was quoted about 662, but this one was a little simple and had no fondant b/c they don't use fondant but can give you the look of it if you want.

I would call around and go to a few places. I'm doing stuff early so that is the only reason I have gone SO early because I am in school and I have to do things when I can.

I'm probably going to check out royal cakery too, just to see what they have to offer.

That's really tight, but maybe ask Flour Power about their "feaux gateaux" (fake) cake.  It saved us about 200 dollars.

(If nothing else, go there for a tasting; their flavors are fantastic and Ronda (I think it was Ronda...it's been a while) is awesome).

oh gosh no! you'll probably be able to pull off a cake costing you maybe $350 max

I'm using Haydel's because they're included in my venue, but if it wasn't included, I'd be going with Gambino's. They are very reasonable and you should be able to get something around that price, granted you don't get fondant (which tastes like crap and no one eats it anyway).

Try Chosen Cakes and Caterers. Four tier buttercream cake for 125 people is $225 (no fancy decoration). They charge $1.80 a slice for buttercream.
