Progress, but no checks...rambling thoughts.

Went to the letterpress shop today to get started on invitations. She said she'd have a proof for us in about 2 weeks. Looked at rings, not too enthused about anything I saw for myself, and honestly, I felt like a lot of the jewlery stores were kinda...I dunno, the whole,  "For just $80 or whatever you get the lifetime guarantee" and "we have this sale going on now, you get X% off, but there's another sale on such and such date, you can get a little more off then" felt like some weird game. He just wants a fairly plain band, so, I dunno, I guess we keep looking? I am starting to lean towards a vintage band (my engagement ring is from 1941, was his grandmother's), and there's a fantastic vintage jeweler I'm going to go look at next week.

We did send the deposit to the caterer this week, and I sent a message to a make-up artist that I got a recommendation for. Starting to lean towards hiring the DJ to do the ceremony music too, not sure we are going to find what we want for ceremony musicians (at least not without spending $$$). Kind of wanted to get more "done" since the next free weekend between his travel schedule and my work schedule is 4/28!!! /ramble

Hope others had a productive weekend!!

  • My weekend has been cool so far.  I and my wedding planner met with my event desinger today.  Three and half hours non stop!  Let me tell you my head is spinning with all of the minute details we went over today.  AND, still we don't have a final plan.  UGH!  We have to go back to the venue to check on a few things and then go back to the designer to see some of the pieces she wants to use in my wedding.  Those pieces don't come into her showroom until mid April or so.  So far, though, I am thrilled with the design elements so far.  :)

I called the officiant my planner recommended to me yesterday.  I am just waiting now on a return call.

My weddding planner is handling the booking of the limos for me.  :)   I am not a fan of limos but honestly I only need it to get me and the WP from point A to B, B to C for photos, and then back to B.  I wanted a vintage car for just me and my Fh and a mercedes limo for the WP but the cost didn't make sense to me.  So a white limo for all it is.

I am pooped now and hope to chill for the rest of the evening and tomorrow.

We looked at some bands when we went to Dallas back in November and recently on a trip to the local Walmart to just get design ideas. He actually liked the ones he saw at Walmart. We didn't want to spend a lot on the bands since he works with his hands all the time. We found the metal that we wanted for the perfect price so I hope we go ahead and buy those soon. I understand all too much about finding a free weekend between work schedules to do planning. No wonder when he gets off of work, we spend no more than 45 minutes on planning and thats it. Sundays is when we do a lot of finalizing so on Monday I can make my calls or do emails on everything.

I have a question about the pieces that were not in the showroom yet. Did she have photos that you could have looked at? I would have love to already have a finalize plan by now in my opinion. And I ran into the same thing with my officiant returning my call. I finally had to call him back after not hearing anything in about a few days. Hope you get the rest you wanted :)

  • Despite not having any concrete accomplished you still had a very productive day! Those visits are time consuming! It's better to not just jump at something immediately and make sure what you're checking off that list is exactly what you want ;)

  • I agree with mamameech, you may not have a bunch of finalized accomplishments, but it was DEFINITELY a productive day!

Yes she had the photos of all the items not in her showroom.  I would say we are 95% finalized on the plan. I need to see the table she wants to use for the sweetheart table and the altar podiums.  She is sending the quote to me this week so that I may tweak it more if need be to get better pricing.  Next month though I am going to request to see a mock up of my centerpieces, the sweetheart table, and my bouquet.

I am placing a second call to the officiant tomorrow.

  • I agree with mama and Britt that your day was still productive.  I know it gets frustrating to put in a lot of time and not be able to check anything off (I'm big about physically crossing things off my lists but I'm a list lady!).  But, when you do cross them off you'll be more confident that you got 100% what you want.

If your FI wants something simple you should check out jvljerwelry.com.  I don't have a current promo code but I bet if you post on the Budget Weddings board someone will....but the promo code makes the ring free and you just pay $25 for shipping.  FI wanted this really unique expensive ring which we got him.  But, he travels a lot and has to take his ring off for work so he wanted something less expensive to take when he travels too for fear of loss/theft.  We bought him a ring off there and were really impressed by the quality considering how inexpensive it was but it was perfect price for a "backup" ring.  Worth looking into!
