Cheap wedding venues - HELP!

We are planning on getting married March 10, 2012 and having a hard time finding venues we can affore. We are trying to spend $5500 max for Sat evening, 125 people for venue, ceremony, food and some drink. Found a few that will work out, but anyone have any other ideas??

Thanks!

Check the vendor sticky, but good luck. Saturday evenings are the most expensive. Could you do afternoon instead? Or a Friday? As an example, we are on a Saturday evening in April and are just squeaking under our $12k budget of venue, drinks, and food. You might check completely DIY places or the Y. I know we have a couple Y brides here that are having gorgeous weddings.

And just in case you can't find the link to the vendor site:

I'm in the same spot you are.  I'm still trying to find that perfect venue but the girls here have helped and steered me to some great venues to look at.  I still need to find time to visit.

It's not on the vendor site, but I think you can rent out the main building at Times Ten Cellars for around $4000... now, if you're including food and drink in that $5500 estimate you gave, that leaves you with a limited amount left to spend...

The venue rental for the YWCA in downtown Fort Worth is $2500 on a Saturday. You can bring in your own food and drinks, which makes it one of the cheaper options. Still ... it adds up if you want a photographer, DJ, food and bar, servers, linens, etc. I am spending a lot more than $5500.

For less expensive wedding receptions for a 100+ guest list like yours, I recommend community centers and local parks. They're harder to research, since you usually have to call/visit. You have a year to plan, which should help.

I also looked at renting out a local restaurant for the night. The liquor was expensive at the Mexican restaurant I contacted, but the food wasn't, and they didn't charge me for "renting" the venue. So, just the cost of food & drinks. You can ask any local restaurants you like to see if they'd do something similar.

Here's a link for info about Ft W community centers. Just google if you're looking in another area. http://www.fortworthgov.org/pacs/centers/info/default.aspx?id=25266

My favorite rec center is in Hurst. It doesn't allow alcohol to be brought in (I don't know if this is a common regulation) but it is inexpensive and looks nice in the pictures online.

Try The Village Country Club in Dallas.  A late Saturday afternoon was $3000 a couple of years ago.  It's very nice and small and they have a spot for an outside ceremony.

Good luck with a sat evening for that price.  It's doable but you will definitely have to dial back on quite a few things.  If you have your ceremony start late enough, you might be able to get by with just serving hors dourves (sp?).

We got married and had our reception at Los Vaqueros restaurant near the Stock Yards. The outdoor garden is so pretty and it's very inexpensive. The staff is AWESOME! They also have an indoor room.

Are you flexible at all on day/time? Sat evening for a group that size may be hard to do for that little. Check cities for some venues that may rent for a less expensive hourly rate...

Just a thought, since I'm sure Winfrey Point may already be claimed for that date...

Keep in mind though the things that may be less expensive to rent might be DIY which could bump back up the price...

Harmony chapel is reasonable if you want to head north of the metroplex a little. I think it is $4500 now, but that won't leave you much for food.

The room rental for Addison Event Center is $2500 for a Saturday, but the prices are significantly less for other days of the week. Buffet pricing for 125 would be an extra $2500, leaving some money for drinks if you wanted to have a bar.

I guess we would also need to know what area you would prefer and which venues you already have in mind so that we know what not to suggest.

Plano Station in Plano is a great value. I helped a friend plan her reception there and we were right around $5500 when all was said and done including everything. She had 120 people.

i have the same budget! we are using the ruthe jackson center on a sunday for about $1500 recep & ceremony food is around $20 pp and you have to use their catering.
Saturdays are a little affordable. They have pricing on the website that is a little off but not by a whole lot.

    Ladies,

Just a heads up this isn't  an old thread, I'm still on the hunt. I sincerely appreciate all of your feedback. Let me clarify a few things, we have a total 10,000 budget max, but we are allocating $5800 for the ceremony, reception, food and drink. The DJ, photographer and everything else is not included in the $5800. I do realize that afternoon, friday or sunday weddings would be way cheaper, but we are set on a Saturday evening and I am determined to make it work.

I have looked at dozens of venues. These are a list of the many that are big NOs:

    ·         DFW Wedding

    ·         Hackberry Creek Country Club

    ·         Robson Ranch

    ·         Na'Kayshions Weddings & Event Center ?

    ·         Landon Winery

    ·         The Belo Mansion

    ·         Marie Gabrielle Restaurant & Gardens

    ·         Northwood Club

    ·         Prestonwood Country Club

    ·         Castle Hills Golf Club

    ·         Canyon Creek Country Club

    ·         Bent Tree Country Club

    ·         Chase Oaks Country Club

    Pecan Hollow/Plano Centre

     Enchanted Memories on the Hill

    ·         Piazza in the Village

    Occasions at Stone Village

    ·         The Orion Ballroom

    ·         The Mansion on the Hill

    Coyote Ridge Golf Clu

    ·         Aldredge House

    ·         Cappella courts

    ·         Buffalo Valley Event Center.

through all of the no's,I have actually found a few that will stay within my budget.

    Eastern Hills Country Club

    Surrey House

    Brookhaven Country Club

    Glory House Catering

And we are still going to check out Bingham House, Turner House, MD Resort B and B, El Dorado Country Club, and I am going to check out the Village Country Club.

Again, I appreciate all of your feedback, and if you can think of anything else let me know!

Glory House is catering my wedding. Are you considering their bistro as a venue? I don't think that would be a very good place for a wedding. The food is great though of course.

Yay for another Ruthe Jackson wedding :)   That being said, because she wants Saturday evening, Ruthe is 100% out of her budget.  For the venue (garden and ballroom), dancefloor, and catering, we are just under the 15k mark excluding the bar.

Well we saw their "banquet" room that was set up for a wedding. It looked nice and we LOVED the gazebo ceremony down the street but it's just too far for us.

Oh yeah it's very very pretty. It is on the historic train stop, so it has a little rustic charm to it. Too bad they are just way out of the way for us.

really? when they gave me the paper it was around $3000 for a sat. of course i was only considering the ballroom alone not the garden since you don't have to have an outside ceremony. Maybe I confused it with another place =( i'll check when i get home tonight.I really wanted Fairy Tale Manor though but it was an extra $2000.
  • edited December 2011
I would warn against not doing the full venue.  They can and will schedule another wedding in the opposite ballroom on your day.  The walls are not sound proof either :(
