Europe honeymooners?

Any honeymooners going to Europe after the wedding?

Where are you going?  How long in each place?

We are going to London, Paris, Cinque Terre, and Rome for 2 weeks and I can not WAIT!!  We are still finalizing the # of days in each place but it is going to rock :)  I've been to all of them except Cinque Terre, and FI has never been out of the country, so I'm excited to show him my favorite part of the world!!

Re: Europe honeymooners?

  • wow that's a ton of places (far apart too) for only 2 weeks.
we didnt hm in europe but i've been many times. part of me wants to tell you to skip london and paris and just stick to italy so you wont be packing/moving every 3 days iwth a day of travel every few days....

  • We're not HMing, but we're going to Europe for the first time at the end of the month and I'm beyond excited!

I'm so jealous you're going to CT!  My SIL went last year and absolutely loved it.  We considered it as part of our trip, but with the reconstruction going on, we decided to wait and save it for another time.

    Have fun!
  • The highspeed train between London and Paris is only 2 hours so it's not that bad.  And the longest train will be going from Paris to CT.  We couldn't skip Paris though, it's the place we're most looking forward to :)

  • Oh goodess, I didn't realize London too.  What are your travel plans?

To make the most of your time, I'd recommend flying into London, train to Paris, over night train to Milan (to minimize wasting travel time) and then train to CT and then to Rome.

Alithebride is right.  You may want to narrow down your selections some; that's a lot of quick travel for a limited time.

yes i know how long the train ride is. my point was that you have 2 weeks. 12 days of vacation time, 2 days of travel. that's only 3 days in each. so you'd fly to london, be there 2 days, pack up take a train that will take more than 2 hours including getting there, time before train, time after train, getting to new hotel, chec king in etc.. you'll loose more than only 2 hours. within those precious 3 days in each you have to cram in part (or most) of a day to get from one to another. just my opnion but i'd still skip london and paris and stick to rome and perhaps skip CT too depending on where you were planning on going due to recent floods and destruction and reconstruction.

  • Thanks for the advice ladies, but we're going to stick with our original plan :)  I was just wondering who's going where and when, not advice on ours since we're set in our way :)

  • If you haven't booked anything yet; you really may want to take our advice into consideration.  If you posted the proposed itinerary on other travel sites (even outside of TK and TN's travel board; suchs as Frommers, Rick Steve's or Lonely Planet), other's will give you similar advice.

We're not trying to be mean or negative, really just practical.

Also, the minimum train time from London to Paris is 2.25 hrs; add on arrival and departure and it's easily 3 hours.

Not to mention your first day there it'd be wise not to plan on anything day of arrival for possible get lag.  If your two weeks includes your travel time, it could be a very difficult and stressful vacation.

Even if you just omitted London, flew into Paris and then trained to CT and then Rome, flying out of Rome, I really do think your trip would be much more enjoyable.  :O)

We're honeymooning in Belgium and the Netherlands for 10 days (not including the travel days). We've already booked our plane tickets and one of our hotels in the Netherlands. There is an event going on nearby so we wanted to book early.

We're doing 4 areas rather close together and I still worry we'll be a bit rushed.

  • We did a mediterranean hm.  We flew to Rome, took the cruise out of Civitavecchia, then stopped in Sicily, Athens, Turkey, and Crete.  When we got back to Rome we stayed for 4 nights.  It was amazing, but definitely not enough time.  We're planning a return trip to Italy for next year flying into Rome then driving to Naples, Pompeii, and back to Sicilicy and we're going to go for 2 weeks.  I would definitely think about changing your plans.  That's so much traveling.
  • We're doing two weeks in Italy. Want to see as much as possible, but don't want to be packing up every few days. Going to do some research to narrow down the cities/areas before having a travel agent weigh in/book.

  • Have fun in CT, it's incredible. As for the time frame, you'll be fine with two weeks, I promise, I did Florence, Munich, Dresden, Berlin, Amsterdam, London, and Paris in two weeks. I think 2 days in CT is more than enough. FI and I met and started dating in Florence so I think we are going to return for our HM. Have a blast and save travels. P.S. - You'll love Paris!!
