Irish Brides: Claddaghs

Maybe it's more Irish-American than Irish... I don't know... but! If your wedding band is a claddagh, where did you find it? I'm having such a hard time finding a decent one for my fh and I.  I just want a regular band with the claddagh engraved in it, but I can't find one that isn't cheaply made :(

Also, I have skinny fingers (size 4) so I'm having trouble finding one that small too.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Re: Irish Brides: Claddaghs

  • I went to Catholic schools, so a lot of us were Irish and had claddagh rings in high school - I'm not using one for my wedding band, but I know that a lot of local jewelers carried them.

I doubt you'd find out at a national or chain jeweler, so I'd try local jewelers or even see if you can have something custom made.
  • I just hunted around looking for a lovely claddagh necklace not long ago.

I'm not sure if this is a tourist-y site, but the rings are just so lovely and look like way better in quality than anything else I could find.  I did not order from them since they only have rings, but they have both adult and child sizes so you can find something that will fit you!

  • there are a few tiny Irish shops around me that have a small jewelry collection, I've always gotten my claddaghs and other jewelry from there.  I think most of the time ordering them online is your best bet though.  My sister ordered her wedding ring (they weren't claddaghs, but another celtic design) online from an established jewelry store in Dublin.
  • I ordered a family crest ring from allcladdagh.com, which does have an actual brick and mortar store in Dublin, and had a great experience.  Looks like they have a big selection of claddagh styles.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • we're getting married in may and got our rings, which have claddaghs and celtic knots on the bands from celticjewels.com.  they are beautiful
  • We are getting our bands from www.myirishjewler.com. These are made in Ireland but ship for free here to the US.

Ours have "love, loyalty, friendship" (in Gaelic) on them as well as a claddaugh but they have tons of options.  And they're sizes start at 4 as well.

And the claddaugh is an old Irish tradition and in fact some still use it as a wedding band in Ireland.

    Hope this helps!

  • The best Irish jewler you can find in America is Solvar. Their website has an excellent selection, I have one with an emeral in the heart, from my Grandma.
