Curse of the large rack (mini vent)

Just had to share my own bit of drama..

Disclaimer:  Yes, at over a year out I already have my dress (long story short couldn't pass up the in store deal for my dream dress)

Stopped in to see it at the dress shop the other day.. try it on.. fall in love with it again ect and low and behold :/  It doesn't fit.  Nothing major but whoops my boobs got bigger.  (Kind of forgot what time of the month it was but that didn't stop my mini melt down)  Lets just say the girls were OVER FLOWING so the top two buttons wouldn't button.  Now I would normally not worry about it since it was during that time but just to be on the safe side... besides push ups does anyone have any good upper body workouts that will shrink the girls a little without making them disappear?

I'm pretty un-proportionate thanks to my mom's genes: 5' 3'', 120 lbs and a 32D (sometimes DD)

Thanks,
Erin

  • Honestly, the best solution is an excellent seamstress.

But if you legitly want them smaller, you can't really spot reduce (and chest exercises have just made mine perkier not smaller) so switching up your diet and losing a few lbs would probably work better.  Watch your salts, eat green and clean, and drink lots of water to cut any bloat.
  • Like anna.oskar said, you can't spot reduce. Losing weight in general will reduce bust size because you're losing body fat. Some women lose a lot of their bust size when they lose weight and some lose more proportionately. I'm also overly endowed (36DD), so I totally feel your pain...literally. I have to wear 2 bras to workout. A good seamstress can usually alter the dress to fit you well.
  • Ditto on the diet.  I had a friend in college who grew a cup size what seemed like twice a year, and it was because that's where all of her fat went.  She ran regularly, but ate garbage, and so the fat continued to build there.
I would treat it the same way as looking at wanting to lose 5-10 lbs (cardio, weights, and healthy diet), and you may find that it starts leaving your upper region.

  • I'm a certified trainer and I get this question ALL THE TIME. But my best advice is to not work out your chest muscle right now. The reason being that your chest muscles and your boobs are two completly different things. Your pec muslces are underneath your chest, if you start building them, your chest measurment will go up! What you need to do is cardio! Our boobs are genetically large (thanks Mom) becuause that's where our genes know to store fat. There are tons of at home no equiptment needed exercises that will include the use of your pecs without expanding the size of them, burpees & mountain climbers for example. I have been cursed with the same problem, and when my chest is at its larger points I work extra cardio in and it always does the trick. Try youtub'ing the exercises I mentioned and if you have a gym membership, (without knowing your physical ailments) the rowing maching is awesome! I lost 2 gown sizes on that bad boy in 4 months. best of luck! :-D
  • I find when I start losing weight I lose it first in my chest (the one area I'd be okay keeping it on!)...maybe just do some light weight lifting and exercise some more?

  • No spot reducing. The only way to shrink the ladies will be plane cardio since boobs are pretty much fatty tissue.
I'm a 32DD so I feel ya... it happens, but I can't imagine that just having it well altered wouldn't help. My gown was just fine (to be fair, I'm 5'8.. but I don't feel like height should make a diff with that? )

I don't think height makes as huge of a difference as does the proportion of the rest of your body. If someone is small everywhere but then has a large bust, that's harder to work with than when someone is fluffier with a large bust. <div>
</div><div>When I was in a wedding 6 years ago, I was a 36DD, but a size 6. They had to order the dress that would fit my largest part...the bust. Then taper everything else down. It looked quite ridiculous on the first fitting. I'm not a 6 anymore, so it's not as huge of a difference to work with. I actually go for my first fitting tomorrow night! AH!</div>

Yep right there!  When I bought a prom dress a couple years ago I had to order a 10 and alter everything but the boobs down to a four.  And I do cardio alot I guess I was sadly hoping for a magically answer where I can shrink and keep them perky?   I do tend to drop the most weight straight from my boobs but then they look like crap (to me at least)

I think my plan is going to be excercise them off slightly but then do quite a bit of chest moves so that I don't feel like I have flat boobs.  Worst summer of my life was when I went to Basic Training and lost 3 cup sizes!  Those babies were flat and not in the cute way.

The only other thing that sucks is I can only take my dress IN not out at all because it is an all lace dress so adding fabric isn't really an option, I guess taking it in too much would suck as well  because I'd lose alot of the pattern.  Just can't win apparently!  Oh well it's my dream dress I'm going to make it work no matter what :)

    This is me, also.

I wanted to add that building those muscles in your chest and back could make you larger and won't help your dress fit. Building muscle will help you lose fat overall and that may help your issue. Maybe you could work on your back and chest a lot and then maybe a few weeks to a month cut it back so those muscles will shrink a little? (Depending on your fittings.)
