Narragansett Room Blocks

I booked my wedding at the Towers for July 2011 and need to look into room blocks for out of town guests.  Does anyone know if you can doroom block at the following:

Hampton Inn
The Village Inn
any other places?

Also - I have read some pretty scary reviews around the Village Inn - does anyone know if its as bad as they make it sound?  I would love to do my room block there since its right next to the Towers and I wont have to provide transportation for my guests- but dont want my guests staying in a run down hotel.

We are getting married at The Village Inn in October and they do room blocks.  The rooms were outdated but they are in the process of re-doing every single room and I think it is supposed to be ready for this summer.  You would have to verify that info with them though.  I was there in January and they were working on them.  My parents have stayed at The Village Inn many times and loved it.

Thank you!  It's probably worth goingdown an taking a look - if they are renovating everything then it must be nice :)

We are getting married at the Towers in May, and due to our wedding being the same weekend as URI graduation we had very few options in the area since everything was booked.  We did a block of rooms at the Ocean Rose Inn down the road from the Towers (about the same distance as the Village Inn). The rooms were a little cheaper than at the Village Inn, but some of the reviews of the rooms on tripadvisor have been awful.  However, the room we looked at was clean and well kept but nothing special. The real problem is the Ocean Rose closes for the winter which has been a nightmare with our guests trying to reserve a room in our block.  Wish they had told us they were going to be closed all winter when we blocked the rooms!  But, after multiple phone calls to the managing company I think we have most of the guests who have already booked in the block of rooms and hopefully have a solution for the guests that will be booking in the next two months.  Hope this Helps!

How many rooms did they let you block off at the Ocean Rose Inn?  What was the rate they gave you?

    Thank you for your help!

Highly recommend the Hampton Inn.  My guests raved about their experience there, my inlaws actually sent flowers to the front desk after the wedding thanking them for making the wedding special. they have a great lobby area that my inlaws family used as their impromptu gathering spot.  Handed out guest bags, etc.  Highly highly recommend.
I do not recommend the village Inn at all.  I was married at the Towers and I didn't use them.  if they have changed management companies AND renovated the rooms, then that is great.  But charging hundreds of dollars for moldy, musty rooms and terrible customer service is disgraceful.
I also did a small room block at the Hamilton Village Inn in North Kingstown (approximately 7 miles north on Route 1A.  A few of our cash-strapped college friends loved it (they were about 100 a night).
I also recommend the Silver Lake Cottage in Wakefield. If they weren't booked for our wedding weekend, my inlaws would have rented that out.  Its gorgeous and very sweet owners.

I heard good things about the Hampton Inn - my only concern is drinking and driving.  My Fiance's friends are big drinkers :)

Did you provide transportation from the Hampton Inn or  did most of your friends and family drive to the towers?  I would like to provide transportation if I do a room block at the hampton Inn - but its just one more thing to budget for and I am working on a tight budget : \

I've booked rooms at the village inn for my wedding in august and I visited in january and they were in the process of redoing the rooms.  Annie seemed very nice and assured me everything would be done by summer.  I've heard the bad reviews, but I went with them anyway because of the location.  My reception is at the north beach clubhouse, so if they really want to, they can walk, it would take them about 10-15 minutes.  I've got a lot of college friends coming who will be drinking, and they'll appreciate not having to drive.   So, I'm hoping for the best!

we did provide transporatation-- we booked a school bus through the school bus department in middletown RI (it was the cheapest) and they allowed us to divide up their minimum 3 hour to meet our needs.  worked out great.

honestly- people attend weddings all the time and do not expect transportation.  don't let the wedding blogs/magazines/sites convince you otherwise. plus, it's likely many of your guests will head out to Coast Guard House or other Narrgansett bars after the reception.

We had a group of our college friends that rented a beach house about 3 blocks from the Towers.  Most of our friends that were big drinkers ended up crashing there at the impromptu "after party" .

Thanks Everyone for the advice!  This has been very helpful.

Anne- what room price did you get for you block at the Village Inn.

I was just at the Village Inn to see the ballroom, and I can tell you that they're definitely doing major renovations. We were told they would be done this May for the wedding season. We didn't see a room as my parents have stayed there many times (and have always enjoyed it), but we did see a completed hallway that was quite nice. They're painting the hallways, elevator doors, moldings, replacing carpeting, etc. They're also replacing the second floor sundeck. They may be doing room renovations - I can report back on those when my parents come up to visit in April!

Over the past few years, I think the condition of the hotel has drastically improved. We're considering either the Village Inn or the Towers for our venue and we'll definitely book rooms at the Village Inn for our guests. We will likely book a block at the Hampton Inn too just to provide a slightly less expensive option.

We did a block of 14 rooms (mostly our college friends cramming into rooms) but that's because we are doing another block of rooms for our "non-drinking" relatives at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick, most of them are flying into T.F. Green airport so that is closer for them.
The price for the Ocean Rose is $160 a night, but this is because U.R.I. graduation weekend is considered a "holiday" weekend, I believe their regular rate hovers just above $100 (but I am not sure on that).  If you do a room block they charge you half the price of each room you block, but when your guests start booking you are refunded the full amount and if you do not use all the rooms in the block you are able to cancel up to a month before the wedding for a full refund of your deposit.  Guests receive a 10% discount if they stay in the block, and they also accept AAA discounts.  I believe most of the rooms have ocean views which is great.  As an aside I have stayed at the S.K. Hampton Inn, and it is really nice (nicer than the Ocean Rose), the only reason we did not block there is because they were booked our weekend.

Ebrosnan, Annie gave me 2009 rates, so the cheapest rooms start at 199.  I had to pay a booking fee of 250 and I think the reason she gave us those rates was because we are getting our catering done through Amalfi, their restaurant (we're extremely happy with Alyson).  So, I'm not sure if you can get those rates, but it won't hurt to ask!  We also blocked our rooms back in January, so we were practically still in 2009.   Annie was very nice and took us on a tour and showed us some of the renovated rooms and assured us it would be done, so we're hoping for the best!
