I'm already frustrated with this registry stuff

So FI and I are going to start the registry Sunday. I already have a headache.

How am I supposed to know what to register for where? I mean, I have an idea of what we're going to put on it, but what? And where? I guess I can start with the dishes and serving ware kind of stuff at Belk. But we're also going to BB&B. *sigh*

I want an Easy button for this one.

Re: I'm already frustrated with this registry stuff

  • They usually have lists of things. Go through your house and see what you have, need, would like I have anthem check out their website and see d there are things you like
  • It is overwhelming. My suggestion is don't pressure yourself to do it all at once!! I've gone to Macy's and BB&B twice each and have added/changed things online and I'm still not done!

  • gabriel, we know (ok.. I know) pretty much what will go on the list. It's just deciding which store to put it on is the issue. I know it'll be a ton of looking around and pricing but.. ugh. So not ready.

Aries, I totally get that! lol! We'll be going in store to do as muich as we can and the "big" things like vaccum, dishes, glasses, etc etc. Then all the smaller things I'll tweak later.
  • I get overwhelmed very easily. As soon as I looked at the list at Macy's FI knew I wasn't loving it. We just went slowly and talked things through so I didn't have an issue. I've added and deleted things on that registry a few times. Then Macy's discontinued all our bedding, so that's why we are going to BB&B
  • I had the game plan together from jump because I knew that mostly what we need is for the kitchen. So pretty much everything we got is between BBB, Wal-Mart and went to Williams Sonoma for all those tasty spices. We love to cook, the rest of the place pretty much is put together. And since it sounds like we are going to move after the wedding, we are not going to ask for other items and just get them when we move.

  • Sooo... I was going to register for the "nicer" things at Belk and the rest at BB&B, but BB&B seems to have everything I want/need for the best price... Thoughts? Would it be weird to have the entire registry at one place?
  • We did Macys and BBandB. Basically, my game plan was to split everything up evenly (or as evenly as possible) between the two stores. I don't know what a Belk is, but Macys and BBandB carry *exactly* the same things (minus Martha Steward is only at Macys). I would have just registered at one store, but I wanted to give people options. And, let me tell you, registering was probably the single most time consuming thing I've done so far. I went to each store 3 or 4 times over the past few months and played with the website dozens of times. Now, however, it's perfect and has lots of stuff in multiple price ranges. I REFUSE TO TOUCH IT AGAIN.

  • My mom and I went and price compaired BBB, Belk, Macy's, and Williams-Sonoma.

The majority of all our items are on the BBB registery (china, crystal, small appliances, kitchen gadgets, silverware).

Our casual dishes are at Macy's because BBB does not carry all the serving pieces.

    Our cookware/bakeware is at Williams-Sonoma.

Registering is fun, but a lot of work.  I don't think there is anything wrong with having 90% of your registery at one place.

  • I think because BB&B is reasonable, it is okay to register at only one place. The multiple registries is meant to give guests price options.  But BB&B has a lot of stuff that isn't too expensive (just be sure to add some stuff that are in the low-dollar range).  If you end up doing two, what I suggest to do at first is register for everything you like at one store, regardless if it is a duplicate of what you have at another store.  Then once you step back, in a week print off both registries, find the duplicates and decide which item you like better or figure out which is cheaper.  One thing that surprised me is Target and Macys have a lot of the same stuff and Target's regular price is cheaper.  BUT Macy's has 20% off registry items just about every other week which makes them cheaper.  Things like that are good to be conscious of.  Good luck!  Just have fun with it.  People probably aren't buying this early so if you get overwhelmed, I say leave and go back to finish another time.  Having just a few things on there would be fine.
  • We registered at 3 places, Crate & Barrel, BB&B & REI. Crate & Barrel and BB&B are our practical registeries. REI is for fun camping & hiking stuff. But thank God we're done... I stressed over how much FI & I have different tastes than where to register. Who knew one man could be so picky about flateware & drinking glasses?!?

  • We only registered at BB&B. We were going to do Sears as well but haven't gotten around to it, and the more I think about it, the more I like what we have done so far. Money is always a nice gift, so if someone doesn't want to go to BB&B then cash is an option. My cousin registered at Macy's and BB&B but both of them were really weak registries. She picked a handful of either really odd things (as in, you need something else to go with it and she didn't register for the something else) or reallllly expensive things. My mom and I settled on splitting the cost of flatware because we just couldn't figure out what else to get her.

Hey, BB&B girls, did you get a bridal goodie bag from them? They told me I had to bring in a card from a bridal show I went to (I didn't have it on me at the time) but they just gave it to FSIL. Is it worth going back for??
  • I hated the registry lol Not gonna lie, it was probably my least favourite thing out of the entire process, and I had family members breathing down my neck because they hadn't seen a registry yet (ya, cause that's the FIRST thing I did after getting engaged... NOT lol).
  • Ohhhhhkay! So... I spent a chunk of time last night going through my list and scoping out things at each stores website. Some things I wrote down specific brands that I wanted to look at and some I just wrote down which store had the best selection for the best price (to figure out when we get there). Most stuff will be at BB&B and some will be at Belk. (For who said the don't know what Belk is... it's a department store like Macy's, but I guess it's a more southern thing. It's considered a "nicer" place to shop for our older family members which is why I wanted to include somet things in there.)

So here's the game plan: Most of the stuff at BB&B, some stuff at Belk, and then fun/quirkier items from REI. FI is actually really excited about the REI one as am I. =)

Man, who knew it was this difficult. It hurts my brain. lol! But I know by the time Sunday comes, I'll be glad I did some pre-scoping. FI even thanked me last night for possibly making Sunday easier on him! lol
