Bridesmaid W/Shower Question

I'm not sure if there's a more proper place to have posted this; I couldn't find one if there is.

I offered to throw my SIL a home and garden couples type shower and she really loved the idea.  And that's about as far as I got with it!  Anyone have any experience with throwing one, receiving one, or what online resources I could check out?  It's a little outside the realm of mini sandwiches and china registries so I'm at a loss.  TIA!

  • I think it sounds neat.  I'd probably aim for more of a backyard BBQ type thing than a frilly shower thing and suggest that she register at Amazon for garden stuff.

It's a more casual type shower aimed to include the groom as well.  Usually (at least in my experience) a couple throws it for the soon to be married couple, and couples are invited.  The only ones I've been to were outdoors and were at the wedding couple's home.  That won't work for me because they are building a house which won't be complete until right before the wedding.  I hope I haven't stuck my foot in my mouth because my yard is still very much on my to-do list of home projects and I really stink at grilling!  I'm not sure if it would be better to do more work and use my house or rent an easy venue and have it indoors.

  • I don't think you have to have the home and garden shower outside, I think what that means is those are the gifts people bring for the couple. Perfect for them if they are building a house. Its kinda like a Kitchen shower...everyone brings kitchen items as gifts. Just specify this on the invitiation that the bride and groom are building their dream home and need your help to make their garden grow and home comfy...a cute saying will be less forward than aksing people to bring a specific gift. Since its a couples shower you don't really need to go crazy on decorations have it catered from a local BBQ joint and make it look like a pinic inside...just an idea. god luck.
