Arizona-Phoenix

Hi there!

Hi ladies!

I just wanted to post an intro thread, and hopefully get to know some ladies around the area that understand what I'm going through with all this madness!  ;)

My name is Amanda, and my fiances name is Chris.  He has been my best friend for almost 10 years now, and we've been dating for a little over a year.  We are getting married 03/31/11.  We were originally planning a destination wedding in Key West, but after some planning issues and frustrations, we decided to move it home to Phoenix area.  I wish I had just looked around here first, as I've found a TON of amazing venues to check out.  Too many imaybe, as we have a busy busy week next week.

He's out of town on business a lot, so planning tours and meetings is difficult sometimes, and I don't really know anyone else in the area to run around with, since I moved down here to be with him.

We are trying to keep the budget as low as we can (hoping to stay around $3-4k for ceremony & reception), so we can focus more on things that will last more than one day.  LOL    Our main priorities for our budget are the photography/video, and honeymoon.

I have my dresses (doing a dress change for reception) bought and paid for, a list of about 8 venues to check out next week, and pretty set on who I want for photography.  Everything else is up in the air!

Our colors are going to be purple/silver/white, and we should be having around 50 guests.  15 or so of those may be under 14 years old, and just about all of them will be coming from out of state (NY and Ohio mainly, one from Alaska!).  It should be an interesting day for sure!

So, that's a bit about me... nice to meet you! Did I miss anything?  =)

Welcome and congrats!!!  What venues are you looking at?  I have yet to do the 'leg work' but I've done an awful lot of internet research on venues :)  Keep us posted on your planning process- I love to hear everyone's ideas etc.  These ladies are all very helpful :)

    Thank you!

Oh my gosh...  I've looked at a TON of them online.  Starting the 22nd when Chris is home, we are going to look at a long list.

24th is Alchemy Restaurant & Win Bar at CopperWynd in Fountain Hills
26th will be Villa Siena (maybe),  Chapel at the Farm, and maybe Regency Garden
    27th is TreBella
28th is Venue at the Grove
    29th is Antique House
    30th is Val Vista Lakes

I have a whole booklet thing made up with directions, times, pricing estimates...  LOL

I was THIS close to going with Venue at the Grove, but ultimately decided on a Sedona wedding.  I really liked the outdoor feel of that place and that it would be just us there, not a bunch of golfers, etc.  Sounds like you have a busy week! Good luck!

Welcome to the board! You are checking out some beautiful venues! It will be so nice that you have a smaller guest list when it comes to caterering and all that fun stuff. I wish I could have kept mine that low! Happy planning. :)

    Thank you for the welcome!

Our original plan was for 10...  $500 ceremony, and take everyone out to dinner!  So it has kind of exploded...  Chris started feeling guilty about his aunts and cousins that he's been to their weddings...  and of course, it snowballed.

I can't really blame him though... his family is very close.  I'm really only close to my mom, so I couldn't care less if she was the only one from my side there. LOL

Have you tried the Arrowhead Country Club? I went to a wedding in February there and it was super amazing.  Golf course, lake views, and the mountains :)

Also another event I went to had an awesome area surrounded by water on all sides, and could accomodate a lot of people:

Both of those do look really pretty!

I've looked into Marriott a few times, mostly because we would stay there free with points that FI has from work travel, but their food/drink pricing is RIDICULOUSLY expansive imo.   I don't care how pretty the view is, I'm not paying $80 for chicken at any event in my lifetime!  Ha!

Arrowhead looks really nice, and decent ceremony pricing, but it looks like they may not allow outside vendors?   That's really only an issue for me for photography.  I'm set on my photographer, and that's my top priority, so I won't give up that vendor.

They also have that pesky 20% service charge that I'm not happy to see at a lot of places.

I may email them for more details on reception pricing though.  Thanks for the suggestions!   I appreciate it (even if I nit pick through them, sorry!)  LOL
