    Disgusting.

I really try to not nitpick denominations over little doctrines and practices, because I know there is not a single one, Southern Baptist included, that has it all right.  However, I'll say this about them...Doing it wrong.

Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments,  "You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet," and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."  Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.  Romans 13:8-10 (ESV)

I hope Lauren has found a good, solid church to get plugged in to.  She didn't seem like she was totally turned off to God by her "family."

I agree with faemp, except I think this "church" is a cult, not a denomination.

I'm pretty sure (can't find a source) that they think that everyone who doesn't actually attend their church is going to hell, which is just straight blasphemous. Also, what they're doing is the exact opposite of what Jesus promoted when they were going to stone the adulterous woman.

Wow, that's just insane.  I hope they will remove "baptist" from their name... they certainly aren't representative of my baptist church.
July 16, Our Wedding Day, is also International Juggling Day!

Mine either.  I don't think they're affiliated with any of the larger sects (Southern Baptist Convention, American, Missionary, General Association of Regular Baptist Churches, etc) but it makes me sick that they use Baptist in their name.

A couple of years ago I stage managed "The Laramie Project' for the 10th anniversary of Matthew's death.  Obviously WBC and Fred Phelps were at Matthew's funeral and that was a part of the play.  The things they spewed were unbelievable.  People like that make me not want to tell people I'm a Christian :-(

Incidentally, the production we did was directed by a pastor and had a pastor and 3 very strong Christians in the cast.  I thought that was pretty cool.

WOW. I am shocked that people like this call themselves Christians. So so sad. Poor Lauren. I agree, I hope that she can move on to a good REAL Christian church.

I see a lot of things put into the media by them and am disheartened to think that anyone believes they represent a Christian perspective. Although, most reasonably sensical people I know, non-Christians included, realize that this group is a cult and do not represent a real Christian denomination. I think they are getting what they want with the media attention, honestly. I feel more of a propaganda and self-promotion vibe from them rather than an actual genuine belief system.

They didn't show at the funeral today: http://www.fox43.com/news/wpmt-clouse-funeral-support,0,2549252.story

I actually saw an article yesterday that said, "There is absolutely no public land near the Mennonite Center where the protesters would have a right to stand. Everything around the center — every foot of grass and gravel — is private land and will be taped off with police tape. Even the road has no shoulder, and they will not be permitted to stand in the road. The nearest public land where Westboro Baptist protesters would have a right to stand is in town, six miles away. "

wow, this made my stomach turn and my heart ache at the same time!

how sadly decieved are these ppl! they are soo lost!

sad that think that there are ppl who think like this and then non-believers think that Christians are like this.
we are called by LOVERS! i always want to be love at all times! this is the second saddest thing i have seen today.

earlier my boss showed me a video of this girl who was "joyful" about Japan..because "God did it to wake everyone up and tell them they are going to hell"! my heart broke when i heard her say this. the devil is such a LIAR!!

I serve a God of LOVE not of hate. It sickens me that be people live like  this. I mean there's so many examples of Jesus seeking sinners to save (Zacheus and the Samartian woman). He even that the one without sin may cast the first stone (refering to condeming). I don't consider that Christianity, I think that's a cult because they are brain washing. So sick

Amongthelilies - I read something where the governor of Toyko said that the earthquake was God's punishment on Japan for being greedy.  Since most Japanese are Shinto and Buddhist, I was surprised that he thought God had a hand in the disaster because I didn't think they believed in God, but I don't really understand these religions.

We were actually talking about this at work the other day.  I know talking about religion is generally frowned upon in the workplace, but none of us consider Westboro Baptist actual religion.  We didn't get into specifics (not really appropriate fot the setting), but we all agreed that our God is One who LOVES us.  One of the women reminded us of "Judge lest ye be judged", which Westboro does not seem to take to heart.
