Marriage License Question

So we're moving into our first apartment this weekend which is really exciting!

My question is, we need to go apply for our marriage license soon but I don't want to change my license to our new address until after the wedding because all of our travel documents say our old addresses. Plus it would just be a hassel to have to get a new license now and then again once my name changes. What do I do? Should we just put our parents addresses down for the marriage license since thats what our drivers licenses say still? Help! Thanks in advance ladies!

Actually I think you apply for your marriage license in the town that you will be married in not the town you live in or that's on your drivers license. I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that's how it is. Because I was told FI and I will have to drive up to Westbrook next month to apply for ours since that's the town we're getting married in. HTH!

We each put our parents addresses on our license.  We had been living together for like 3 years when we got our marriage license, but neither of us had ever switched over our drivers licenses.  Use whatever address is on your drivers license on your marriage license.  I'm waiting until we move (we just bought a house) to switch my name on my drivers license, too, so I only have to make the change once.  (Honestly, it seems like there's no real authority that checks all this stuff...i've had my SSN switched to my new name for like 6 months, and my drivers license still says my old name.  It's very strange how no one seems to cross reference things!!)

does that all make sense?  lol hth!

You do get your marriage license in the town you are getting married in. They made a copy of our drivers license, to I am not sure they will give you a license with addresses that are not on your DL anyway.  HTH!

This brings up a good point. FI and I moved in together and haven't changed our licenses - we have sent in the change of address form to the DMV, but only have the stick on on the back for the new address. Our passports are registered to our old address (parents). Will any of these things affect not being about to get out (or back in) the country for our honeymoon?

We just got ours the other week. You have to get it in the town where you will be married.   I wasn't sure what address to list either because I still have my New York license, but I live in CT.  The town clerk told me that I should list the address where I am currently living and that it didn't matter what the address was on my license.  From what I've heard though, each town has their own form and 'rules' so you should really just ask the clerk where you're getting your license.

Ditto PP.  We actually just went today. FI has a NH Driverls License...just hasn't changed it yet...  we both put our CT address on the marriage license,  she looked at the drivers licenses.  Truth be told,  you take an oath which techinically covers the "I am who I tell you I am " part which is why they look at the license anyway.  I think your actual home address doesn't mean too much... Having your old address on your passport won't affect getting back in the country.  My passport had my address from three or four moves prior when we went on our honeymoon and we had no issues.

According to everything I've read, you can get the marriage license in the town where either you or FI reside, or the town where you will be wedded.  But I have heard that you  can only get it from the town where the wedding will be in from my JP, so to be safe I would go by you get the marriage license in the town in which you will be married.  And double check if you are getting married in a village that is part of 2 towns (ie. Mystic, like I am, is part of Groton and Stonington) because you have to go by the address of the ceremony venue at that point to determine which town hall to go to.  But I think when you apply for the marriage license, you give them your current address of where you live (with your FI) and the license is just for photo identification, so if the address (your parents') isn't current it doesn't matter, it's just for the important info (picture, DOB to ensure you are of age to marry). And as far as your driver's license change, you don't have to get a whole new license to show a change of address.  You are "supposed" to let them know as soon as you move your new address and you don't have to print out a new license, they just give you that sticker that you put on the back of your license and that is proof enough, so you save yourself the cost/hassle of printing out a new license just for address changes.  Save the whole new license deal for when you change your name (or in your FI's case for when his license expires).

We just got our license today. I had the sticker on the back from when I changed the address, and there was no problem at all with it being different. It was an easier process than I anticipated.
