mandap pricing...and lighting...

Any good ways on saving on these two items?  We are getting married in Sept/Oct 2011 hopefully.  We are thinking of doing the wedding at a temple...but then transportation becomes an issue for the guests.  We have been pricing mandaps but we have been quoted at ~ 2-3,000..is this normal?  This seems like a lot of money for a mandap....

That's actually a pretty normal price for the mandap, aisle decor, backdrop, Ganesh table, etc. You have to remember that it's not just for the items themselves but that there is a lot of labor involved, too.

If you want to save money and have the means to do so, you could always use a garden gazebo as a mandap, since they are similiar in size. Just remember that you will need a few people who will be available to set it up and take it down for you.

Another option is if you want something simple, talk to a local florist to see if they could put together a simple chuppah-like structure for you and how much that would cost.

    Hope that helps a little...

I agree with Raangoli - those prices are normal due to mostly the labor of set up and take down :)

If you are able to get the rest of the ceremony /  reception decor from the same company providing the mandap decorations, you might be able to get a discount...

If you want fresh flowers hanging under the open areas of the mandap, I'd suggest friends and family coming together to put that together (DIY)... the quotes I received were super high, and it wasn't worth it! (e.g. between $5,000 and $10,000 for carnations!)
