Re: HOW TO do Reception Seating ??

  • I sat people like this

MOB table: her sisters and brothers
FOB table: his sisters and brothers
MOG table: sister and nieces and nephews
FOG table: daughter, sisters and brothers
    Then I had
    My cousins at 2 tables
    His cousins 2 tables
Our groups of friends were divided into tables with people they knew (3 tables)
We had one table where each couple didnt know anyone else and sat them all together.

Course this isnt for sure just yet since I dont have RSVPs back.

It was just easier to sit people with people they know. This generally means with their family. Otherwise you have to start thinking about who would get along with who.

  • I would group people based on who they might know or get along with. I don't think there's a problem with "his & hers" tables, because it's probably what's more comfortable with your guests. We're grouping people together based on how we know them. My family, his family, college friends, hometown friends, his coworkers, my coworkers, etc.

  • I'm just trying to put guests by people that they know or people that I know they have something in common with/would get along with.

I already did our seating chart as the majority of the people are coming. I put my family together, and FI's together and then we put all of our friends together with others they know. I would talk with your IL's about this to find out who they would like to have seated together or rather who doesn't get along.

  • I'm going to wait until we have the majority of our RSVPs to do ours.  We'll be sitting people who know each other together - I'd be a little weirded out if I went to a wedding and got sat next to random people in order to "mix things up" when there were others there I knew.

  • Did anyone run across a website or a program (free or cheap please) that makes the charts for the seating?  I sure could use that (if anyone will send back their invites!).

I did some google-ing over this and found a few. Have you tried this yet? I'm not a home so I can't tell you the program I used...I'll check back tonight to see if you found something. If not, I'll post the free program I found.
