Inviting soon-to-be former boss?

Hi all :)

I'm a school teacher and will be leaving my school at the end of the year to pursue a graduate degree. I've been at my school for several years and have a good relationship with my principal, who also wrote me a wonderful letter of recommendation. I have socialized with him outside of school at "informal" events (such as Christmas parties), but I wouldn't consider him a "friend."

My wedding is a week after the end of the school year ends (end of June). I will be inviting a few other teachers (those I'm close to), and I'm wondering whether it is proper (or not) to invite him as well.

Thanks! :)

Since your wedding is so soon after school ends, I think you should invite him.  If your wedding were later in the year and further removed form you leaving your job, then probably not.
  • Are you as close to the principal as you are to the other coworkers you're inviting? If so, I'd include him as well. If not, don't feel obligated to invite him just because other coworkers are invited. Be sure to mail all invites rather than passing out invitations in person at work.
  • Since he wrote you a wonderful letter of recommendation, I would definitely invite him!
  • I am not inviting mine...and I am getting married during the school year. My cutoff for people at work is those that I socialize with on a regular basis outside of school. I guess you have to decide what your cutoff is.
  • DH and I are both teachers. We didn't invite our bosses.

  • If I were coming back next year, he would most definitely be invited; he knows my fiance socially as well. I only hesitate because I'll be gone (and about 400 miles away).

I am leaning toward inviting him.

    Thanks all :)
