Maui Resort Oceanfront Weddings

Hi Ladies,

Does anyone have opinions/experience/feedback on the Wailea Beach Marriott, Westin Maui Resort or the Hyatt Regency Maui for ceremony and reception?  I thought we were all set with the Grand Wailea but the only venue they have that will accommodate our number of guests (50-60) carried a 35000$ food and drink revenue minimum!!  Which I am sure is well worth it if one can afford it:)  Next tried the Fairmont but they only book one wedding per day (when I heard that I wanted my wedding there even more, ha!) and they're already booked for May 20.

Anyhoo, back to the drawing board.  Thank goodness Cherise has the patience of a saint!  Any input would be SOOO appreciated right now:)

oh, and we also kinda looked at the King Kamehameha golf club too if anyone has experience there?

THANK YOU!!

Oh goodness, that is a high minimum!!

I don't have any experience with the Wailea Beach Marriott, Westin or Hyatt Regency but we are having our ceremony at the villas lawn at the Royal Lahaina Resort which is right on the ocean (but on grass, no sand). We are doing our reception elsewhere but they do have a package if you wanted to do both the ceremony and reception onsite that is pretty reasonable -- worth a look :)

    Hope this helps!

I think Knottie M&M's Maui had her ceremony at the Hyatt and then her dinner reception at the Westin a long while back.  I remember seeing her photos and video - her wedding looked gorgeous.  She had splendid reviews of both venues too!

We didn't get married there, but we have experience with the Wailea Beach Marriott.  We used them for our group hotel, rehearsal dinner, welcome cocktails, Sunday brunch, etc.  We also stayed about a week and did our TTD there as well.  Our experience with the hotel was fantastic, and they pullled out every stop for us to ensure the week was flawless.

I have no experience with the ocean front wedding part -- not sure which lawn area they would use.  I would be happy to put you in touch with our group coordinator from the Hotel who was just *fabulous*.

Thanks girls!  I'll keep you updated on what we decide.

The Marriott looks great and both the Hyatt and Westin pics have that tropical, lush look we're going for:)  Did everyone else have this much trouble making the "venue" decision??  sheesh, hahahaha

Yes, venue selection is such a huge decision!  Totally sympathize  :)  Are you going to make a scouting trip to Maui sometime?  It really helps to view the sites in person to make a decision.  It was a worthwhile investment for us and helped with making decisions about venues, vendors, guest accommodation options, etc.

If your not set at doing it at a resort, I would suggest the following locations if you want the ocean as a background

    - Merrimans , its beautiful the ceremony would take place on grass overlooking the ocean, the minimums are not bad at all.

-Five palms, ceremony takes place on the grass, overlooking the beach

I personally am going with merrimans.  Im have the reception under the cabana

Sadly, it is just not in our budget to do a scouting trip to Maui.  We live pretty remotely so just getting to Vancouver can sometimes be costly.  BUT we do have Cherise so we're in good hands:)

We did look into Merrimans and Five Palms but decided we'd really like to keep everything at the resort to avoid transportation etc etc.....but those places look great too!!  I keep telling FI (and myself) that it's MAUI....there can't possibly be a "wrong" choice!

Venue is one of the biggies in terms of decision. It really sets the stage for everything else. For me, it was second only to caterer. I agonized over that one.

As a pp mentioned a former knottie had her ceremony at the hyatt and her reception at the westin...it was beautiful! It is only about a 5 minute walk or so to and from each venue. I think i still have her planning bio which has a link to her awesome video teaser...just let me know if you want it. HTH! J. :-)

maui2011, I would love to see some video or pics:)

We're just waiting to hear back about availability and prices at the Hyatt.  Maybe in a week or so we'll actually have a venue! YAY!

Sure...here is her planning site...i have the Hyatt page loaded...she also has pics of the Westin and don't forget about her trailer video. Personally i would chose the Hyatt over the Westin...it's a beautiful property...but that's just me...to each their own.  HTH! J. :-)

Make sure to also check out Marie's vendor reviews on the website!  :)  She had an awesome planning bio...so much inspiration on there...

We visited the Hyatt and the grounds were fabulous.  Didn't visit the Westin though...
