Good Evening!

So.  Apparently I AM hosting Christmas this year.  Despite much bickering, after weeks of drama, and tons of insistence that I don't host because I did it last year..  They finally got tired of arguing and decided to just ask Anna to do it.  Buttheads.  Now I have to rearrange all my holiday decorating to accommodate all the extra people.  They know I'm a major advanced planner.  Now I'll have to figure everything out in the next weeks.  Plus I've got Hanukkah hosting added to that.  Good thing i love the holidays huh?

So now I'm watching holiday QVC and browsing pinterest for fun decor ideas.  I'm home alone for a bit tonight while my H attempts to get a life  ;)  He's starting a new hobby.

What's up?

Re: Good Evening!

  • god bless ya, I hate the holidays. Luckily I don't have to host people, that would make me hate it even more. I'm just so grinchy every year, I don't know why. Maybe it will be different when we have kids.

I'm procrastinating DIY projects with a glass of ginger ale and jameson. Why is there nothing good on my DVR? I guess I should get back to table numbers...

[QUOTE]In Response to Good Evening! : <strong>No, you need to hold a lottery to determine who can come :-) </strong>I did the dishes and laundry.  I'm waiting for H to come home with pizza, probably in about an hour.

    <div>BEST.  IDEA.  EVER.</div><div>
</div><div>Not sure if it's truly in the holiday spirit though.</div><div>
</div><div>So Edie...  wanna help me shop?  I'm hosting all Hanukkah (we do it open house style) and need lots of fun.  Oodles of dreidels, gelt, and awesomeness.  Also, I've decided to get an amazing menorah.  I love my grandfather's, but it might be a little too special to me to use with a houseload of guests.</div>
  • Hi!

Eeesh, sorry you have to deal with the late notice. Our plans are still up in the air for Thanksgiving and Christmas. All I know is that they will not be at my house. My Christmas pinterest has been neglected in favor of Halloween. I should probably get on that.

    Pizza sounds tasty.

Block exams are next week, so I'm keeping the library open late tonight and catching up on some serious stamping/labelling action.

[QUOTE]Maggie that sounds really pretty. I'm going to AW my menorah.  DO YOU SEE THE BEE?!

    <div>Love it!</div>
  • I *just* got the email from my dad about thanksgiving. A couple families backed out so only 45 of us this year. (down from the usual 75-80.) That's good news for me because that's half as many pies I have to make. I was starting to get twitchy from not knowing, so i'd be going nuts if i were you bunni!

oh hey - do you have pictures of your unicorn costume from halloween? I'll share my fantasy football player (my fiance ended up going as boxing legend Manny Pacquiao)

  • Wow, Maggie, those sound like really pretty table numbers! And Anna, I have to admit that I'm a sucker for using heirlooms and antiques... is your grandfather's menorah especially breakable? If not, it might be very cool to use it even though there's going to be a crowd at the house. I like getting out my grandmother's fine china for special occasions every so often.

<div>Breakable, not especially.  It's silver.  But it's literally priceless so I'm a tad terrified at the idea of tons of people even being around it.  You're right though.  Maybe I could find a special safe place to have it and then have another.</div>
  • That oil one is neat Edie!

Spiffy! I can probably get some up tomorrow, they are on the house computer.

I am a little twitchy, but that's nothing unusual in dealing with our families. Annnd speaking of twitchy, MIL and H's grandma are coming to visit this weekend. They decided today. I'm excited since they haven't ever came to see us, but really? 2 days of notice?
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
  • 2 days notice is bull.  That doesn't fly in my world.  I'm way to much of an advance planner.
  • Yep, I'm a little annoyed. We did ask MIL over the weekend, and she had to make sure she wouldn't be oncall, so I've been planning as if they were coming until I knew for sure.

I'm super excited that his grandma is coming. She is my favorite person in his family. We're kind of kindred spirits.

  • That happens to me all the time with my future in-laws. not so much with the dropping by to visit but like with family events, I feel like we are told waaaaay last minute. my fiance knows it makes me crazy and so he's always like "I'm sorry... we have to go to NJ this weeknd for ______ (insert important family thing here.)" Like your grandma didn't suddenly have a birthday, it's been the same for the last 70+ years, so think somebody could let me know?
