No, favors are NOT neccessary. It's not bad manners to skip them. Personally, I think they can be a waste of money.
If you do want to do favors, I would recommend something edible -- your favorite candy, homemade or bakery-made cookies, etc. This can be less expensive. But like I said, if you're on a tight budget, just skip favors. It's fine, I promise.
Trust me, nobody wants one random photo coaster with your names and wedding date on it.
They're not necessary; when I saw your post I decided to go look for favors from the weddings we went to in the past year and a half. We don't have a single one!
What we do have is a photo thank you from two of the weddings after the photographs were developed. It was more of a thank you for the presents and I thought that was better than the favor to be honest.
The other wedding favors, not so much. I think most of them were lost in transit between TX and NY, RI and NY and CT and NY. Some were even missing in transit from the local hotel to our house.
Trust me, it put it into perspective for me and I really don't want to waste people's money paying for them. What my mother does, however, her business.
They are not a requirement and can certainly be cut from a budget when cuts are necessary. As far as my opinion of favors in general - give me something edible. I don't want ANYTHING with your names and date on it, I don't want an odd champaign glass, wine glass, or anything else. A little treat to pop in my mouth is fantastic. other than that, they can be skipped altogether.
My best friend spend hours wrapping up hershey kisses in little boxes, wrapping ribbon and gluing bows and over half of them were left at the reception after... I think it's totally acceptable to spend your time and money elsewhere.
Definitely something you can skip! I was debating not doing them alltogether until we got our heart set on doing a photobooth with a photobooth guestbook, and then the pictures they take home can be their favours
I vote that you can skip them too. We are doing an edible favor, cake pops. Cuz we can make them, they are cheap and I like to eat food when I'm a little tipsy. Honestly, if I could put a big mac and fries in a bag and put a cutesy monogram on it I so would, all I want after a long night partying is some greasy fast food....but that is neither here nor there!

I want the In-N-Out cater truck to come in at the end. It's a little expensive but would be SO fun! Especially for our Montana guests who have never experienced the most heavenly hamburger in the world!
OP, Definitely not necessary. I would rather you spend that couple hundred bucks on more alcohol, better food, or more time with the music. I'll remember those things a lot longer than I'll remember (or keep) a trinket.
Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
We have been to 3 weddings in the last 2 years, none of them had favors. It wasn't something I noticed until days after the fact, even then, it wasn't a big deal. More of an observation. From what I've seen with friends having attended weddings and reading online, they aren't a must nowadays which is great. Jordan almonds kill my teeth.
No one wants a keychain with your name and wedding date on it. My FI and I are making a donation to the American Cancer Society. We will be placing something on every table that says this to let our guests know we have done this instead of favors.

Don't do the bolded part. It is not a favor for your guests so don't pretend that it is.

How is that a favor to ME?
Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
I am going to be wrapping reeses in little tulle bags. If they are left, they will be ours! They are our favorite Not required though, a lot of my friends have not had any.
It's definitely not a must although it might be nice to just have some candy or something on the tables for them to munch on. If you don't want to then it's not a big deal at all. Don't stress about it.
Edible for sure! I'm hoping to do an edible escort card/favour and looking at either chocolate number lollies (chocolate table number with a sticker that has the guest's name) or cake pops with little name and table number flags on them.
With all that is involved...photo booth, candy bars, name place cards...gosh what else do people want? Also I'm having a Korean portion of the wedding, so we are giving away korean rice cakes too. On top of all that, a favor?
NO, as a Planner I have personally thrown "tons" of favors in the trash. If anything, I suggest giving a donation to your favorite charity and mentioning it in your program or on your menu cards - "In lieu of favors, .... "
Favors are not necessary. At my sisters wedding (which had roughly 100 guests) we had a candy buffet that was a blast but my now fiance, my parents, and even sister ended up having to take about 10lbs of candy each home, and just so you know it was a destination wedding, lugging it back via plane was a pain. One of my friends took the $500 left of her budget and donated it to a local charity of her and fiance's choice that meant a lot to them and their. They donated the extra money in honor of their guests and gave a speech about it at their wedding. It was beauitful and generous. They donated the money to breast cancer awareness because they both had family members who have passed and survived breast cancer.
I agree they are not necessary. And most people usually forget about them anyways. I think if you want favours, you should customize it to the guests (like having their name on it). That way the guests may be more inclined to bring the favours home.
But of course it all depends on budget what your preferences
I'm probably not doing them unless I cave to my inexplicable desire to have the Italian 'five jordon almonds wrapped in tulle' thing that all the old italian ladies keep in the china cabinet for the next 37 or so years...
concur with your other comments! It's the easiest item to remove when on a budget, especially if you feel your money might be wasted. I am a parnter in a small chocolate company. We work with the bride and groom to meet their budget. We make handmade cream filled chocolates in 12 flavors. You can buy in bulk and dress these chocolates up yourself or just put out a plate at each table or you can package them yourself to save money.
