So...

...how are we feeling after the offical news announcement this weekend?

I knew about it last week, but I'm still really shocked at how far they have taken this.  It scares me for what's next.

Re: So...

  • What announcement?  Am I living under a rock lol?  Was it about Obama's healthcare bill?

  • Dang! Just typed out a response that I think got eaten...

Anyhow, you're talking about the HHS Mandate, right?
Here's the page that talks about how to support the bill that will try to overturn the mandate: http://www.nchla.org/actiondisplay.asp?ID=292
including writing to congressmen and saying:
“Please co-sponsor the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act (H.R. 1179, S. 1467). This measure ensures that the rights of conscience of all participants in our nation’s health care system will be respected.”

And here's the USCCB fact sheet, which is very helpful, including discussing the whole "isn't there already a religious exemption?" thing

  • The Church is run as most large cooperations are so this didn't surprise me at all.  I've found that quite often the CEO had no idea what another division was doing.

Did you expect that everyone working at the Vatican is without malice or sin?   There's corporate infighting everywhere business is done.  Why would the Vatican be any different?  It's run by humans and no one is perfect nor does everyone exercise perfect judgement.

The NYT carried the story on the front page but it faded the next day.  I guess it could return to the front page if there is serious proof to the ":dirt".  Otherwise, it was just a good gossip story.

meh, I don't expect perfection from anyone or anything.  This is just the business side of the Church which differs little from any other business.

Did the Pope do a cover up?  Who knows?  He certainly wasn't speaking from the point of infallibility so I don;t see the point of your question.  He may have been wrong, there really wasn't enough info published in one copy of the NYT to make a judgement so I would give the benefit of doubt here.

Could we bring up something other than a story that so far has just been based on corporate whispering?

Yep. I thought all the bishops wrote letters that were read in all parrishes yesterday?

I have a post about this on my fb and people are just so ridiculous.  This entitlement that they feel it is their human RIGHT to have b/c paid for them by someone else just makes me so sick.

That's the problem with "rights". What are they? How do you define them? The general public has determined that "rights" not only include basic needs, but also priveledges, desires, etc.

It find it highly annoying that many read about this and respond saying their RIGHTS are infringed upon if the Church DOESN'T provide these "healthcare needs".

HUH? How are your rights infringed upon?

I don't even know what the heck OOT is talking about, but I love (sarcasm) how the NYT would put a story on the FRONT PAGE like whatever she is talking about, which sounds like it had hardly any "dirt" or facts.
Oh wait, of course they would, if it's about the Catholic Church!

You are brave to post something on fb. I can just imagine the comments I would get from many of my "friends". It makes me so mad how pregnancy is treated like a disease, and something that should be prevented at all costs. FI's cousin just had a post on fb about how someone commented on the fact that they "did it right" because they had one boy and one girl in their first two pregnancies and now they are done having children. (FI's cousin has 3 boys). One of her friends who has 5 kids under the age of eight was posting all the crazy rude comments she gets about having so many children. It is unbelievable.

Yeah it hasn't been easy. But honestly, the enws is barely covering this. Nobody will know about it otherwise.

It's up to each bishop if he will do it in his diocese. Catholic Vote says as of now 82 of 195 (I think) U.S. bishops have spoken out. Keep an eye out because I know for example that my bishop is very opposed--he already went to the papers about it a few weeks ago--and that his letter is forthcoming, but it hasn't been put out yet.

  • I love my city. At Least 1600 teens/chaperones went to the march for life in DC last week. (There were way more people from St. Louis and MO right to life there too).

Anyway, our archbishop put the smack down in his homily. It's short and to the point.

    It's not linking for me...

Go to archstl.org   and choose the vid "carlson speaks to teens at march for life"

it is so good...and has to do with the discussion.

  • We attended mass in a different city yesterday, and I don't remember any mention of this.  I'm sure it was read at our normal parish in Dallas, though.

I'm curious to know how many people that were outraged by France's "burqa ban" find this bill to be okay.

  • We had a letter, which was read at mass just before the homily and was also copied and inserted into the bulletin. The homily also hit pretty hard. My H and I are certainly praying and have sent emails to our congresspeople.

Because any minute whispering of the possibility of scandal with one person in the Catholic Church means we're all nutsos who are also corrupt.
