To Stowe or not to Stowe...

Hey girls! As you probably know, the Stowe is under the radar and closed its doors for its summer 2011 weddings. We booked the Stowe building for next Aug 2012...and we really love the space and esp. love the amazing deals on the packages. We've already paid the deposit. My question to you all, would you get out now...or wait to see if they get their game together? I'm very torn if I should just ask for my deposit back now or wait and see what happens until they supposedly open for weddings in July 2011. I feel like after the fox4 newscast there's been some fishy things coming forward about the owner, Ryan. Again, we love the space and feel that if all the promised things happen, it will be an amazing venue for us. What would you do if you were in my position? Thanks!!

I got an email from Ryan this morning stating they were closing their doors.  Guess our decision has been made for us.  Good luck with your wedding planning!

I went in to see my venue coordinator today (Chapel Ridge Banquet Center in Lees Summit), and she literally got like 3 phone calls while I was there about Historic Stowe, everyone is going crazy and she's getting slammed with brides needing a new venue. If you need another venue they're really good, and they are trying to make up a deal for Historic Stowe brides to help y'all out. I'm so sorry about everything!

we were booked for july 30, 2011, with a $500 deposit.  i sent ryan the information he requested to get our deposit back, but honestly i'm not counting on it anytime soon.

today we met with "black on burlington" and the "screenland theatre" on armour road.  both were super nice and willing to give us good discounts.  tonight we are going to club 1000 who is offering a 50% discount and an event at club 2000 tomorrow with other vendors who have availability this summer.  it's nice to see so many credible vendors willing to help those in need.

in the end, it will all work out.  ;)

I met with club 1000 and I thought it was nice except I spoke with my photographer and he said that he had shot some wedding there and he nickel and dimed brides and was very difficult to deal with. I also went online and saw some reviews and they were the same as what my photographer had said. I am at my whits end.. I don't know what do  and crying about it isn't getting me anywhere .. If anybody has Idea please help

I am getting married at Chapel Ridge Banquet Center in Lee's Summit. They're honestly really great, very beautiful, easy to work with. The coordinator there is actually apparently working on a discounted package deal for Stowe Brides, although they didn't cost as much as Stowe did anyway, so you should find a good deal there. :) Good luck!

OnCloudK9- I'm def. interested in Black on Burlington and want to tour it soon. I wonder if these places will give 2012 stowe brides the same discount...do you have any idea?

marienikole- there's an event tomorrow (sunday) from 4-6 at Grand 2000. there will be a lot of kc venues there ready to help...i feel like that would be a good place to start (again).

I wonder the same thing... We were booked at the Stowe for March 2012... with everything that's going on my fiance has decided he doesn't even want to talk about venues this week... I think i've wore him out with obsessing this issue... But I wonder if venues will offer us the same deals or how long these deals may be good for.... I have been interested in the Tuscan Ballroom in liberty and Fresh Air Farms...

I have heard a lot of mixed feelings about Club 1000. It is a nice space and events go professionally.  But i have heard the owner is very hard to deal with and will not budge at all.  I met with him because he is offering a great rate for us.  I am just worried he will find a way to not get the $500 damage deposit back.  There were many clauses in the contracts that call for additional fees.  One was if a vendor wants to come in prior, outside of your rental time, they will allow this for $50.  CLub 1000 told me they would be taking care of all of the arrangements for vendors so i told them I didn't like that clause of $50 an hour without my permission because all of my vendors can come in during the time of my rental, and I do not want earlier to be an option for them at my expense.  The owner of Club 1000 would not budge and said if a vendor wants to come in, he will let them in and unfortunately has to charge me for it.  If he has to loose a contract over that, then he will...blah blah...
So, I am still looking.  May have to go with him, but I would add the $500 damage deposit in the price because i doubt you will get it back.

I used Club 1000 for my wedding, and yes, anything outside of the time you've rented the space for you must pay for, unfortunately. We ended up not getting $50 of our deposit back because we came the next day to pick up some items we'd left. I didn't really care though, it was only $50 and we got the rest back.

But I did stress to the rest of my vendors that if any of them showed up outside of the time, I was going to be royally pissed. They all got the picture.

Oh, and I meant to come on and say that don't like John (the owner) scare you away from Club 1000. It's beautiful and my guests loved it.

And I am so sorry to hear about the Stowe building. You hear about stuff like this happening but never think it will be near you.
