looking for unique and ethereal wedding/reception site

Hello fellow brides!!! :D

I'm so excited to get started on this wedding planning adventure! So I've been looking at potential sites around the Boston area and I haven't really found anything I love. My fiance and I really want an unique, romantic/ethereal backdrop with lots of greenery and flowers, perhaps a garden/meadow area or I'm also open to a great view of the ocean.  I've been searching high and low and all I've seen are hotels (which are a bit too commercial for my liking). We don't mind an indoor wedding either, as long as we can take some great photos afterwards. Looking forward to hearing your ideas!

    I second Willowdale Estate!  I LOVED it there.  It reminds me of Snow Whites house and they are super nice and accomodating there.  I went to view it and a few weeks later they sent me a box of awesome cookies that the owner made.  The outside area where you can have your ceremony is beautiful.

    We really liked both the Barn at Gibbet Hill and Misselwood at Endicott College, but decided we wanted something right in the city. They were both gorgeous though.

    Also check out the Newport mansions. Most of them do weddings, but they will be pricey. I know it's in RI, but those might have the grounds and feel that you're looking for.

    You could also look into doing something like a tented wedding at an estate you like.

    The Horticultural Society of Wellesley has a beautiful wedding location. The indoor rooms are gorgeous and of course the gardens are amazing.
    You would have to bring in your own catering company and there is a rental fee but it it is in your budget its gorgeous

    The Searles Castle in Windham NH doesn't necessarily fit in with any of your description, but it is totally unique and STUNNING.  Let me know if  you want to see pics from our (in my humble opinion) gorgeous wedding there in July 09.

    Liv your wedding was gorgeous!  I don't want to hi-jack this post or anything. 
    But, I have a question for Liv.  I remember about 6 months or so ago you said you had a list of the music you had at your wedding that was awesome.  Would you mind e-mailing it to me at wedding525 at gmail dot com

    I ditto the Horticultural Society of Wellesley... what about the Wayside Inn?
    There are mansions on a lot of the RI coast that are a bit less expensive than Newport itself so it might be worth asking this on the RI board.

    Ofcourse, I have to make a shameless plug for my venue as well, the Beach Plum Inn on MV. PIB. I am sure you don't want to hike all the way to MV, but it definitely fits your description. It is on a cliff, overlooking the ocean, in a country garden setting.

    Tower Hill Botanical Garden in Boylston is really pretty! I considered there but really wanted a Fall wedding by that time they are closed for weddings! The flowers are absolutely beautiful there! and you can have your reception in the Orangerie (all glass enclosed, houses plants in the winter)

    I am getting married at the New England Aquarium this summer and it is both beautiful and cost effective (for Boston). The ceremony is on the water, the cocktail hour is around the new outdoor mammal center and the reception in under a tent right on Boston Harbor! Good Luck!
