Photos in the casinos

Hi! I'm brand new to this board and am trying to figure out all of the details to have our dream wedding in Vegas this november. I've been wondering how all some of you have gotten photos taken in the casinos and especially and the tables (like craps throwing the dice)? I know the casino's are not fond of photography. I'm bringing my father (of course) who happens to be a professional photographer and would love to get these pictures of us.

Thanks for your help and sorry if i'm rambling!

There's generally two options:

1) Rush the table (an empty one of course) and get your pics in before they kick you out.

2) Have someone who has a lot of pull with the casino from gambling get their casino host involved so they make security agree to let the pics happen.

They'll always say no if you ask so best to not ask lol. If you're well organized you should be able to snap off several great pics before they kick you out. We got married at Mandalay in June and we got everyone in the order we wanted to be around the table before we walked up, walked into the craps pit and jumped around the table and the photographer and videographer just started shooting. We probably got 45 seconds of pictures before the security guy started yelling. :-)

An added recommendation; if you can, find a larger than normal set of dice to throw on the table for the pics; makes it easier to show up in the pic without having to photoshop some in.

I was under the assumption that most of the photographers photoshop the dice in. I could be wrong but thats what thought I read on here!

Thats why I think they can be done because you are just basically having your photo taken at a table.

We just found an empty table and started shooting. No one said anything. I got married 1 year ago. Our photographer said not to ask because then they have the chance to say no.

They're definitely photoshopped if they're moving because to capture the motion you'd have to use a very fast shutter speed and casinos are too dimly lit to do that unless you had a bunch of flashes/strobes which of course they wouldn't in the casino. Some just put the dice on the table though; that's what we did.

As far as the empty table, they have an issue with it because the pictures can show locations of cameras, guards, other details that people could study to try and find a weak link in the casino's security measures; so although nothing at the table is very important, they dont know that that's what you're actually shooting. A wedding party and photographers could also just be pretending and working as a team providing a distraction for something else like make a bunch of noice and flash some cameras while someone switches dice, cards, etc, at one of the tables.

Every time I've looked like I was going to take more than one picture or kept the camera out in any casino I've been asked by someone to put it away or no photography allowed. Mandalay's security booth guy, who's about twenty feet from the craps tables, told us we'd need to stop taking pictures when we came down there after our wedding a few weeks ago but by that time we'd already gotten the shots we wanted.

Same here, we just found an empty table and pretended we were throwing dice. Todd photoshopped in the dice. We had a few photos taken at the slot machines. We found a slot in an area not busy and just sat down and played while Todd snapped away.

Basically this took a few quick minutes in order not to bring attention to ourselves.

I would say most casinos if they notice a large group for too long will ask you to move along. That's why most photographers snap and go. We had Cashman, the hotel photographers, taking a shot of us at a slot machine at the Wynn and within 2 pictures security was over and telling us to move along and this was before their lockdown on outside photographers. I think there are a handful of casinos that are extremely strict about photographers and others are more lax.

I seem to recall a number of brides getting table shots at PH without too much issue.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering the same thing. I took pictures at the slot machines at the Hardrock and security came right over and told me to put my camera away.

Really? That stinks! I see people taking pics in my casino every day. Maybe the rules are different for pro photogs since the casino could assume that they might make money off of casino images???

We did ours at the Flamingo and did not have any problems. No security in sight. We got several at a slot machine and a few at a craps table.

But we did make it quick-ish.

our photographer said pictures in the casino are fine as long as the cashier is not in the background -- that is when they get a little upset -- don't know why. At MB the craps table is near the cashier so we weren't able to use those tables, but got shots at a lot of others. No one said anything to us

Todd seems to like the Bellagio for his casino shots. We were quick and discreet, it was just the two of us plus the photographer. He photoshopped the dice in on this photo:
