  Are they really needed? It depends what you want to remember. I knew that I didn't want video of EVERYTHING, but I did want to see everyone actually walking down the aisle (more than just what pictures would show). So we had a friend do our ceremony video. I wish that we had video of the toasts though. It would be nice to see (because I don't remember), but also the wife of one of the groomsmen was taking care of their 2 year old when he spoke. So she never got to hear what he said. So it would be cool to show her.
  
  I love Jagore's suggestion of a film major....the only thing I will say if you're not hiring a pro--for anything-- (or even if you are using  friend who is a pro)--treat them like a vendor. Tell them exactly what you want and what you expect. We didn't and though I totally appreciate what we got, we didn't get exactly what I was hoping for.

  I'm using him for my upcoming wedding in August. Since I worked with him school 3 years ago, I know that he is def. reliable and extremely professional. It's nice to be able to have someone film my wedding who I know I can def. count on to do a great job. He has great prices too

  You don't need video. If you think you'd like a video, get it. You don't want to regret not having one. But don't get it just because you feel like you should, imho.
  
  AB Pro Video is a relatively new company and their rates / packages are negotiable. They're making a promo video for me. (They both went to film school and I liked the idea of having a more cinematic-style video for my promo.)
