May 2013 Weddings

changes, changes, changes...

Is anyone else having this problem?

Originally FI and I seriously wanted an intimate parents and siblings only attendance at our wedding, but we were "talked" into having a somewhat larger wedding. We were expecting about 45-50 guests (I know this still seems small to many of you). So we've been planning accordingly. Tables, STDs, Invites, Cake, etc. . .

Well, remember I said my brother and his wife couldn't make our wedding because they're expecting. I also cut a few people from the job I left because that whole thing didn't end well. So now as of Christmas, I found out that we are now down an additional 5 and maybe 7 people. So we're looking at maybe 33 - 35 guests max.

While this is great for my per person cost, some of the expense I've already spent. Now I only need 4 tables instead of 6, so thats extra linens and centerpieces I have now. I was able to reduce the size of our cake and that will save me money, but now we're reducing the size of our venue ballroom so we don't look dwarfed in such a small space.

Overall I just feel like we keep making changes and I just want to have a final plan in place. I appreciate everyone at least giving us notice so I can attempt to reduce things early, but now I'm questioning why we even have certain things, like a DJ, etc.

Is anyone else having this problem?

  • We a kinda in the same situation FI is now saying that some of the people we sent STD's too on his side he no longer thinks he wants to invite them to wedding. I am  thinking that terrible etiquette and majority of the people on the guest list are his friends! I am still on the fence on a DJ although we have one I just don't see our guest dancing. Every wedding we have been too NO ONE danced nor did the have DJ. Hopefully you will have a set in stone plan soon!

  • I wish people would keep decreasing the size for me!  With that few people, I'd rethink having a DJ.  If I had that amount of people, I'd just like to have a nice dinner at a restaurant.

I agree. We would be out the deposit at this point, if I cancelled the venue. I'm still on the fence about the DJ. I definitely think I only want light music playing - no dancing expected. Plus I don't see people drinking either. The wedding is at 11am and we'll be done by 3pm. So we are going to do a champagne brunch and if anyone wants a drink, the country club has a bar next door. We are going to probably have nicer food though, which will be a nice change. :D

  • I agree with Mel. If my guest list got cut down to that I'd rather an intimate dinner at a restaurant that had a live band.

</div><div>That sounds amazing.  How about live music?  Having two live musicians for light music is more special and better sounding than a DJ and should cost the same amount.  You're in Florida... for a 3 hour reception I'd say you'd could hire some really good musicians for $400?  If you are interested in the live musician idea, advertise on berkleemusic.com.

  • Love this question. My FI and I want a VERY small wedding: 18 people. No grandparents, aunts, uncles. Just parents, siblings and my son. I'm catching a lot of heat because I'm not inviting my maternal grandmother. Why can't the families just be happy for us and let us have the wedding we want? I don't know how to handle these questions. I get so frustrated and I'm honestly just sick of trying to explain my reasoning.
