Make Up Dilemma

I'm having two hair stylists. I'm also bringing in a make up artist for myself only. Most of my girls don't wear much make up and wouldn't be willing to pay what the make up artist charges and FI and I are paying for a nice chunk of the bridal party expenses so it just wasn't in the budget to pay for thier make up to be done. However, one of the hair stylists let me know today that she would add on make up services for only 25 dollars! Is it ok to have her do the BMs and have the other artist work on me only?

As long as you're not requiring that the bridesmaids wear makeup, you don't need to pay for it.  I think it'd be fine to have a MUA do yours and have the add-on from the hair stylist for the BMs, but you can also give them a choice.  "I'm having my makeup done by soandso, she charges $x for bridesmaids.  The hairstylist offered to do makeup for $25.  You can also do your own makeup if you'd like.  Please let me know so I can tell the hairstylist how many to expect."  Just make sure you check any contract with your MUA for any statement saying "sole makeup artist" (I don't think that's a thing for make-up, but just to double check)>

I'm planning on having my makeup done by someone, but she charges a lot more than what my BMs want to spend, so they're doing their own/each others.
  • I'd read the contracts carefully.  My MUA's contract states that she is the only MUA for the event, basically she would not be ok with the situation you described above.  Assuming that isn't a problem, I think it's nice to be able to offer the girls makeup services at a great price.  With my girls, I sent them all a message saying I was having my MUA come to my house the morning of the wedding and asked if they would like to have their hair/makeup done too.  At that point, it was up to them because they would be paying for themselves.  They were all intersted.  Since I had a few extra dollars I just paid the full bill and told them it was my treat.

  • I'd double check your contract, but give your MUA a heads up as well.  Who knows she might offer to do it cheaper.
