Is it me....(Help solve a song debate)

My FI wants to use the 50 First Dates Version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow  as our first dance song.  I think it's such a horrible first dance song, I hear it as not being happy where you are and whishing you were somewhere else. Is it just me? I've picked a million other songs all with lyrics that have a really beautiful meaning but he says all the singers voices sound whiny, miserable, or depressing.  I think the lyrics to our wedding song should have a significant meaning and we shoudn't dance to a song just because the music playing in the backround is a eukulele.
Am I crazy?

i think it's just you.  lol!  honestly, we used this as one of our processional songs (bridal party), and the priest leaned over to my now husband and said, "what a great song you chose", so i guess it's all in the ear of the beholder.  :)  that being said, it was a beach wedding, it had significance to us and we both really wanted to use it.  if you think it sounds sad, you shouldn't use it!  i mean, you might want to read the lyrics and see if you really do think it's sad, but if you do, you shouldn't force yourself to dance to it.  keep searching, you will find your song.

When I hear that song I think of how when I'm with my guy I feel "over the rainbow."  So it's different for every person but if you don't like it, definitely don't use it.  You guys should both love your first dance song.  Mine is trying to talk me into Aerosmith's "I don't want to miss a thing," and he's driving me crazy about it.  That song was nice the first time I heard it in fifth grade but now it's just overdone and a little corny.

Don't worry, there are a billion love songs out there.  You'll both love one of them, : ).

I actually found What a Wonderful World by the same artist and I think it's really beautiful... so we found our first compromise. It's not definitely going to be our song but it can go on the list.  Thanks for the opinions Laughing
