Renaissance Oak Brook Hotel- sad face

Hey all!

I haven't been on theknot since my wedding last July... but I just wanted to express my sadness about the Renaissance Oak Brook Hotel closing in April. Our reception was there last year and it was the best experience ever and the hotel coordinator, Sharon, was simply wonderful. If anyone else had their reception there, they know what I'm talking about! It sucks that I won't be able to tell my kids in the future "that's where your dad and I had our reception!"

If anyone was supposed to have their reception there and it was cancelled, I'm so sorry! I wish you all the best!

It is popular and it's always busy! Apparently the building itself is owned by the Oak Brook Mall company, General Growth, and is leased to the Renaissance/Marriott corporation. They could not come to terms with the lease so it's closing on April 22. I am so sad thinking of all the staff and the stress that the wonderful coordinator, Sharon, is going through to come up with solutions for the cancelled events. It's shocking and came as a surprise to the employees.

WOW! It was in our top 5 reception venues! Agreed--Sharon was super nice when we met with her.

Wow!  I'm shocked by this.  I've always thought it was a beautiful hotel; in fact, I made that comment when we were shopping at Oak Brook on Saturday!  So disappointing...

Mandybear we had our reception there in September of 2010. I cannot believe they are closing!!!! We, too, will not be able to say "this is where we had our reception". I was shocked when Sharon sent the email today. Also shocked that the cost of our reception couldn't help the hotel to stay open any longer, haha not really but it seemed like the hotel was in a great area and did a lot of business with weddings and corporate events. I wouldn't have had my wedding at any other place! I really would like to know what is happening to people with contracts, are they going to offer to honor them at other marriott properties or possibly refund these people entirely? How terrible to have to re-do a wedding location! I am still so shocked by the news, I recommended sharon and the renaissance to EVERYONE!
