RCI Timeshare vacations

Over the weekend my future inlaws graciously offered us use of their RCI timeshare next year for our honeymoon.

Originally we were thinking a reasonably cheap, all-inclusive, effort-free vacation in a hot beachy place, but this new offer may change things a little bit.

Has anyone used an RCI timeshare?  Have you "upgraded" to the all-inclusive (seems like an extra $80-$120/night), and if you did was it worth it?  At that price upgrade it seems almost cheaper to just buy a package at a regular all-inclusive resort.

Any recommendations on which RCI resorts to go to would be greatly appreciated!

Re: RCI Timeshare vacations

  • I have stayed at a RCI time share 2 times. We did not upgrade to the all inclusive. We stayed at The Gran Melia in Puerto Rico. Everything was great and in my opinion there is no need for an all inclusive there because the food around the island is so good and inexpensive.
  • A lot of AI resorts are also timeshares. Some of the timeshares on RCI require you to purchase the AI package, so make sure you check to see if AI is optional or mandatory.

We are RCI members because of our Palace Resorts membership. We usually just use our Palace weeks, but did exchange for timeshares in Las Vegas for our wedding.

Do you have any idea yet of where you might want to go?

    Thanks for the feedback, ladies!

All I really care about is something warm where I can lay on the beach.  FI isn't a fan of Mexico but high on my list are Dominican, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Cuba, or some of the little islands (Antigua, St. Maarten, USVI etc.).

We went with the inlaws last year to Los Cabos/Cabo San Lucas.  I think the resort was called Club Regina (not sure if that was their RCI timeshare or a different one, they have a couple).  The resort was nice but empty, and the drinks and food were super-expensive.

Vegas came up as an option, but the more I think about it I'm not too sure.  I guess I associate it with gambling but I know there's so much else to do - shows, sightseeing, Grand Canyon trip, etc.

MNVegas - any recommendations of Palace resorts or other RCI resorts that are good?

We have gone to Sun Palace in Cancun (AI, all adult) several times and Aventura Spa Palace in Riviera Maya once (AI, 1/2 resort all adult).  We enjoyed both but prefer Sun because it is a smaller, more intimate resort. We will be going to Beach Palace on Dec. 6 and are really looking forward to it.  Food is good, spa treatments great, fun tours and the service is outstanding. We were so impressed we became Palace members several years ago and always love going there.

BTW, when we went to Vegas we did little gambling. We enjoyed shows, drove to Valley of the Fire for a day trip, lounged by pool, enjoyed all kinds of dining, did gondola ride at the Venetian, loved the Secret Garden/Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage and we go married there!
  • I know that you can go to the Palace Resorts using RCI. They are great they have 13 properties so you have so much to choose from. I know you said your FI isn't a fan of Mexico but they also have 1 resort in the Dominican Republic that is the first ever all-inclusive Hard Rock Hotel! It's supposed to be amazing. I've visited various Palace Resorts but never this one and I've heard great reviews I can't wait to go there. Palace Resorts also has a luxury, adults-only property called Le Blanc which is gorgeoous I would go here if you can.
