Finally had my moment...

in realizing "holy crap! I'm getting married!"

I thought that moment would come when we got engaged. Nope.
Or set a date. Nope.
Or start making major checks (venues/dj/photographer/etc). Nope.
Trying on/buying my dress. Nope.

I really thought it wouldn't hit me until the night before/day of.

But today.

We went to Sears to look at their rings. We wanted to spend no more than $100, but since they had a nice sale going, figured we'd look into it.

So FI decided on the ring, and we got it.

He was so adorable. He was like, "Omg, I got a ring? This is weird." I figured he was just going to do the guy thing and be completely "whatever". We got in the car and was like "Give me the ring. I want to put it on again!"

So I hand it to him and he did not want to take it off! We had a few more places to go, and he decided to wear it around - though I'm like "dude, we're not married yet, you're not supposed to be wearing it!" It was good fun though.

It just totally changed everything - especially because he was actually really enjoy wearing it.

So we get home, put it with my band. We're watching a show, holding hands, and I'm like what's that? He had the ring on again!

I told him we should totally move up our wedding date so we can just wear our bands lol (not going to, really). But it was just adorable that he enjoyed wearing it. It's back in its box now.

Unfortunately, he ended up getting the ring in a size too big. I thought it looked big, but he thought it was fine, but after trying it on his middle finger, he saw how it should properly fit. 8 was too small & the smallest they had was a 9, so we'll have to go back and return it & just order off their website in the right size.

But, yeah, so it took buying his ring for everything to feel real and official.


Oh! And I think we've decided on our unity thing for the ceremony. I read about it last night and just felt that it was 100% perfect for us, and just so utterly right for him. When I explained it to him, it took him a littlel while to really grasp the concept, but eventually said exactly what I had been thinking. We both know our Officiant will love it.

    Aw that's so cute lol! Whenever FI would put a ring on he would take it off like his finger was about to fall off or something. He just said that it "feels weird...". He is so silly at times... I still havent had my moment just yet but I am sure it will happen sooner or later. Congrats on getting your FI's wedding band!!!

    When he first tried on the ring he started yelling "it burns!" lol

    I honestly didn't think that moment would ever come (until the day of), so it kind of took me by surprise. Today really has felt like the happiest day since we got engaged (actually probably even more so!). Everything just felt so real and exciting. Today made my #1 spot of favorite moments of planning the wedding.

    Asking my brother to be in the wedding and his response and excitement come in at #2 lol

    That's so cute!  By the way, he's not the only one.  We haven't bought my FI's ring yet (we're waiting until December so the bi-annual checking them out dates line up with mine).  But I currently have my wedding band in my jewelry box and once ever other month or so, I put it on with my e-ring, just to see how they fit together.  

    That is probably the cutest story I've read in a long time though.

    What was the final unity thing you decided on? I definitely dont want to do the candle or sand so Im definitely interested in hearing your idea! :D

    Annas2013, To be honest, I ended up doing the same thing too lol It was fun to try on again; the only other time I tried on the band was when I had it resized just to make absolute sure it was the best fit.

    MamaBear904 and melb2013, we're actually going to do a rock unity. It's kind of fitting with our ceremony location (Slippery Rock Pavilion). Basically each guest will take a rock (about the size of their palm); on one side they will right their name and on the other side they will put whatever they want (prayer, wish, advice, drawing, anything).

    They hold onto the rock throughout the ceremony & after the vows and exchange of the rings, the officiant will have a "speech about how each guest has been a part in the foundation of our marriage, how they positively affected each of our lives and how both groups of family and friends will be coming together with our union. Our bridal party will collect the rocks during a song, and we'll combine them together in a large vase ... We get to keep the rocks forever and if we are having a hard time we can go through them to remind us of the people who support and love us."

    Quoted parts as this was the wording from someone else who had used this (though took out part - they put it next to their marriage license and signed it). I found this on another website by a bride from about 2009.

    But the whole thing is very fitting for us. I don't think we'll put doing the marriage license thing though like this person had. I had suggested to FI that at this time, we each do our own to put in there and on the other side is a wish/prayer/etc. for the other person.

    There's some details to work out on this, but this fits us much better than candles or sand. Or really any of the other things that I've read about.

    So glad you had your moment!! I'm still waiting on mine as well. But your story was adorable and reminded me of my FI. He LOVED going to look for his ring, but everytime he would try one on he would wiggle his fingers and take it off! He said it felt weird. But after he finally decided on one and we went home, he kept pulling it out of the box and wearing saying "we're getting married."' :) I think that was his moment. haha
