gift bought but I never received it

Hi,
My wedding was a few weeks ago, and I noticed on my registry that my cousin bought some of our wine glasses from Crate and Barrel three days before our wedding. However, we never received them.  I have no idea if they were shipped to us and got lost in the mail, or if she bought them and forgot to bring them, or if they were snatched.
Is it rude to contact her to ask her about this?  I am not really sure how to go about it!

Thanks.

Re: gift bought but I never received it

  • I would contact Crate and Barrel.  This happened to several of my items and there were shipping issues.
  • I would call the store first and see if they were shipped.

  • I would start by contacting crate and barrel and find out how it was purchased (in store, or online) and go from there. If it was purchased online, and should have been shipped to you, that is a problem that crate and barrel can deal with, no need to involve the cousin.
If it was purchased in store, then that is an issue with your cousin, and I don't think it would be polite to ask about it. She may have bought it, and then realized she couldn't afford it, and had to return it. It's possible that if that happened, the item wouldn't go back on your registry list.
  • I agree with contacting the store first. If that doesn't solve it, I probably would not bring it up to my cousin. As PP pointed out, perhaps something happened from when she originally bought them and is unable to give them to you now. We have no idea--could be lots of things. If enough time goes by and she THOUGHT you had received them with no word yet from you, she will probably ask about it.

  • Another thing PPs didn't mention that I thought of was that possibly the wine glasses were purchased for her and accidentally taken off the registry list.  I've seen this happen on registries before, and the mistake isn't necessarily caught by the store/clerk/purchaser of the item until too late.

That being said, I'd contact Crate & Barrel to find out if there was a shipping mistake or anything.

  • there is also the option that she bought them for you for another occasion. alot of times people use registeries as an idea of things the couple wants so people will often buy off them for christmas birthdays etc, because it is hard to get adults to say what they want for these events so she may be holding onto them for another occasion

That's exactly what I was thinking. I have a friend who's famous for that. She always buys something realizes she can't afford the item and exchanges for a less expensive item.
