Seating chart...

Are you doing assigned seats, assigned tables, or neither? We are doing a buffet dinner, so I figured assigned tables would work to avoid chaos... the dj can dismiss table numbers up to the buffet for example, and I feel this also avoids our closer family ending up in the back... 
FI thinks it will be ok if we just number the tables, but do not assign anyone to them. People would pick their table, still be able to be dismissed by table number, and go back to that table...What do you guys suggest? I feel like I already know the answer, lol, just want reassurance I guess.

    I plan on assigning tables as I have some family who needs to be at certain areas with people.

    The idea of doing a seating chart totally stresses me out! We are doing a buffet style dinner and will have a few reserved tables near the WP for family and that's it.

    I plan on assigned tables too. I was at a wedding this summer that did buffet style and NO assigned tables/seats- it was chaos. I didn't get to sit with my family. I would highly suggest assigned tables!

    We're assigning tables but not seats. I think it'll be a lot less confusion for our guests that way.

    We're doing tables not seats, it will be super stressful but I want to avoid the chaos. My cousin also works at a party house and she said that when you don't at least assign tables it becomes craziness.

    We're assigning tables not seats.  If you don't assign tables, then you'll end up having one empty chair here and there as people will not seat themselves in groups that will take up the entire table.  That means you need to have more chairs out than people.

    We are assigning tables as well. That way we only need the amount of tables and chairs for our number of guest.

    We're assigning tables. I had a friend just finish up her seating chart (wedding next weekend) and she said it wasn't nearly as stressful as she'd thought and she finished it pretty quickly.

    Co-sign with everyone assigning tables, but not seats.  This way there aren't people looking around for somewhere to sit because they don't know anybody or couples who can't find two seats together.

    We're doing assigned tables, not seats. We're having a plated dinner, but the guests will order what they want at the reception, not on their invite, so no need for place cards.

    I'm seriously considering assigned tables. We are having a buffet but, I've been told that without assigned tables, Many people will leave a few open seats at tables and we have limited tables to use (definitely more than enough for our guests but not for only 5 people to sit at an 8 top).
