Pew ideas?

I'm not quite sure how to decorate the pews for our wedding. Our colors are light gray and navy blue. I like the tulle connecting them all, but every wedding I've been to has it and it always gets ripped down by kids before the wedding even starts. So, I'm looking for a new idea. What have you seen that you like?

  • I've seen cones filled with flowers or pomanders decorating the ends of the pews and that always looks pretty! Also big ribbons are simple but pretty.

  • Check with your church to see what other people have done.  Many churches have restrictions on what can be taped, tacked, etc., so they might have some good ideas for you.
  • I bought small lanterns from another bride on TK, I am planning on hanging them from the pews with ribbon.  Simple, cheap, and it will illuminte the aisle a bit since we are getting married in a 100 year old chapel where the lighting inside can be kind of hit or miss depending on the sun.

[QUOTE]Skip pew decorations, and put any decorations down front where the ceremony will take place. Pew decorations can get in the way like you wouldn't believe, the guests don't see them once they're seated, they'll be looking down front at you once the ceremony starts, and the bulk of your time is spent at the reception. Sink your decor budget and your efforts into the reception decor.

This and this! I was a pretty anal particular bride that totally wanted pew decorations until I had to make a decision between pew decorations or trees at the alter. I went with the trees and I'm SO glad i did. The pews were already pretty in themselves but there weren't any pictures of them anyway. Plus they took the trees to the reception so we got to enjoy them longer (pics in my bio).

My cousin told me I needed something to block the aisle but I didn't do anything and no one went into the aisle.

And IMHO I HATE tulle. Seriously, sorry the tulle is so 90s for me (although I have seen some nice arrangements/displays).

  • Those simple decorations are very beautiful!

  • I am doing a variation of this on the pews.  I was able to purchase the fabric flowers off of ebay cheaply and they are good quality.  I bought double faced satin ribbon off ribbonbazaar.com, which was a good price as well.

  • Ask the church if they have any pictures of their christmas decorations in the church.  My mom and I visited my ceremony site while they had everything up and it definitly gave us some good decorating ideas.

The church might even let you use their decorations (if they're not too christmasy).

  • Swags
    Buckets of Flowers
    Bows

I'd attach anything with wide ribbon and/or wire to keep from damaging the pews.
