Bachelorette Party

So... my friend decided to plan a cruise for my bach party (Sweeeet)!  She decided on a 2-night Bahamas cruise (Bahamas Celebration), around $164 pp.  Everyone was excited untill..

We have one friend who's been on it before.  She says it sucks.. She said the pool is small and above ground, the ship takes you to Freeport and you have to pay $50 to use the hotels pool and theres nothing else to do.  So that kind of bummed me out.  it's the only one affordable for everyone AND the only one where people would only need to take off 1 day.  My dilema is this, I want to keep if affordable for everyone and I can't ask the girls to take off more than one day of work.  I think it may be too cold for the pool anyhow (Feb 4th) and am more concerned with the night life on the ship... Has anyone been on this ship before?  Is it worth the extra $ to go with a nicer ship?

i went on one and it was ok. It think it will be fun with a group of girls going. If the company is fun then it will be fun. I went on the Imperial Majesty before they updated the boat. I think they new one is nicer

Thanks Beth!  I just wanna be fair to all of the girls with $ and having to take off of work.  I think it'll be fine too, but I do want opinions. :)

We're going on the Bahamas celebration... i had never heard about the Imperial, but when I looked into it, it only sails on Monday and Wednesdays I think...

Anyone have info on the Bahamas Celebration?

For what it is, it isn't bad.  Like Beth said, if you have a good group it will be fun.  It isn't comparable to a regular cruise boat, but that is also why it isn't as expensive.

It's nice that you are keeping it inexpensive for your girls.  My bachelorette party is in Vegas and will be about $500/person for 3 nights in a 4 bedroom suite (my mom has a timeshare at a casino so we get a big discount).... my girls live by, "Go big or go home."

My friend is in the TV commercial for the Celebration.  It is definitely nicer than the Imperial.

The Celebration is better than the Discovery, in my opinion.  Check out cruisecritic.com for reviews of these lines.

My girls are planning a cruise for me as well so I have a little insight on the prices...we are going a different weekend than you though.

If your girls can get off work just one more day, you can do a weekend cruise from friday to monday (you get in early on monday so some may still go to work!).
The prices for your weekend are not too bad either, on Carnival you can go for $229 and on Norweign you can go for $189! I believe they both go to Nassau.

    HTH!

I took the Discovery to Freeport this year for Memorial Day - left Sat. morning, spent all day Sun. in the Bahamas, returned Monday evening.

A couple of things: for hotels on Grand Bahama, I recommend the Lucaya area in general, as opposed to Freeport - there's more going on in terms of clubs/restaurants/etc.  We stayed at Pelican Bay and I highly recommend it.

The Discovery is an old boat, and not particularly clean.  There is definitely a party vibe to it (I was with my FILs, so I wasn't doing that).  The food they serve is decent, nothing to write home about, but I found plenty to eat, and I'm a picky vegetarian.  It takes four hours to go from Port Everglades to Freeport, but you have to board a couple hours before it leaves, and there can be long delays waiting to get off the boat and go through customs in the Bahamas.  Same thing on the way back - both boarding and disembarking, we had delays of 1+ hours to go through customs and immigration.

I do not recommend - at all - doing the one-day trip, because you will only be in the Bahamas for a couple of hours, barely long enough to do one short activity.  It's definitely better to stay overnight, at least, but I would really recommend just not doing Discovery - the time on the boat isn't that great, and since it's a short trip, better not waste those hours.

We're trying to do the same for my bachelorette party, we found weekend cruises for about the same but they're a 3 nights, and they sail to nassau and cancun, I think it was royal carribean.  I'll let you know exactly.  It's certain dates in Feb that they have that price for.  I'll find the link :)
