Getting Married in a Playground?? :D

My fiance and I have been dating since we were 16 (I'm 21 now, for perspective haha). The first summer we dated we'd spend 17-18 hours a day together just sitting in parks and playgrounds, since we didn't want to be at either of our houses and had nowhere else to go.

So I was thinking... instead of having our wedding ceremony in a large meadow park area, or beside a lake or something, what if we had it in a playground, with a large enough area next to it for guest seating. We could be in the middle of the playground set, which we could decorate with tulle, ribbons, flowers, etc.

Do you think that's a tacky idea, or could it be made into something fun and beautiful?

I thought that this playground wedding was really cute. The only issue is whether you could get permission to use the playground.

I think it would be awesome, but finding just the right park that you'd be able to take over entirely might be tricky.

I used to go to birthday parties at a park in my hometown. It's not too much of stretch from a party to a wedding...

I was also thinking you may have trouble finding a playground that you can get permission to have your wedding in. Unless of course you don't mind screaming children running through your ceremony.

Is there a church or school in your area that may have a playground? Or a campground with one? I think as long as it's not the middle of the day at a city park you can pull it off.

I agree with PP, I don't think it's a great idea. I think your guests would think it's weird and not as romantic as you might have it in your head. Furthermore, wedding pictures with playground equipment in the background just sounds bizarre to me.

And, like a number of people mentioned, good luck shutting down a playground. For one parents would complain to the parks department, but for two people would probably show up anyway then their kid will be upset they can't play.... the possibilities are endless.

It might be easier to take engagements or some wedding day pictures at a playground, instead. there would be a whole lot less logistics to worry about. It would make for some very cute photos!

Don't listen to the pp above trying to discourage you. I think it is a sweet, romantic idea. I think you should start doing research now and see if it is feasible to get the necessary permissions and if not, THEN you can start looking at the alternatives like just making it your theme at a different location.

If you get the necessary permission, children showing up shouldn't be a problem because (at least in NY) notice would be posted at least a week before warning people that an event was going to occur there.
