Cathedral Brides! Traveling from Omni Royal to Cathedral

Hi everyone! I am getting married in the Cathedral in September and will be staying at the Omni about 2 blocks over. I've checked into getting a limo for the ride, but hate to pay so much for such a short trip! Is anyone else in this same situation? I've thought about a carriage, but not sure about the cleanliness of them...or the smell... :(

One of my relatives has a big Infinity SUV and I've thought about having him drive us to the cathedral, but I know he wouldn't be able to pull up in front...hate to get dropped off on the corner in my wedding dress, but seriously...this wedding is getting crazy expensive, so I'm trying to save where we can!

Any suggestions?

Re: Cathedral Brides! Traveling from Omni Royal to Cathedral

  • It is a really short trip. I am a cathedral bride, but the Omni Royal wouldn't give me a room block there without having an event at the hotel. We are staying at the Bourbon Orleans, but if we would have done the room block, we were going to let the wedding party walk.
  • I agree it is painful to pay so much for such a short trip.  But given the restrictions on pulling up to the Cathedral and/or parking around it, I decided to suck it up and pay the cost of the limo transfer so I can be dropped off right in front (I believe only limos are allowed to pull up into the plaza area- I assume carriages can too).  Celebrity Limo was the only company that I could find to charge a much lower rate for a one way transfer from the hotel to the Cathedral, since we are second lining to the reception I didn't need roundtrip.  Everyone else wanted to charge me roundtrip for the limos and the passenger buses for my guests.  Even at that it is $125 for a less than 5 minute car ride, but I'm paying for peace of mind, etc. at this point I guess.  Not much help I know, but at least you are not alone.  :/

  • I agree with this- too short to pay for anything.  I would have walked had we gone there, but we are also at the Bourbon Orleans.  You could do a carriage or rickshaw and get within steps of the front.  For me it wouldn't be necessary, but I don't know the constraints of your wedding party :)

  • Thanks everyone! Celebrity wants to charge $340 to transport the groom's party and come back to bring the bridal party...so if we go the limo route, I'm thinking that the guys will be walking, hopefully that would cut that charge in half...

I think I am going to check into a carriage for just my maid of honor and I...the rest of the bridesmaids said they have no problem making the short walk from the hotel to the cathedral! :)
