How to propose to him?? My 2nd wedding, his 3rd...

We've both obviously had bad marriage(s) in our past and I'm a bit nervous to take the plunge again. His idea was that when I felt the time was right, to just propose to him, that way I was on board. He would be willing to be married t/m... I'm the hesitant one. So my question to you ladies is: What is an awesome and unique way to propose to him?? He's big on surprises and parties and loves to plan. I'm not very creative, so I wanna blow his mind. We're both cops, so we love the adrenaline rush from that, we love to shoot, camp, fish, hunt, go to parties, nice dinners, travel, kayak, ski, etc...

PLEASE HELP!! =))

Congratulations and welcome to the board.  I'm all about romance and memories, so I suggest popping the question at a place you've been to together -- a B&B, a favorite restaurant, or maybe your living room.  My FI (who has been married twice before) chose to propose on Christmas (my favorite holiday), while I was doing something completely boring (packing for a trip).  So ... I say go for it.

I applaud you for taking the leap of faith down the path of marriage again.  Woo hoo!  Good luck on whatever approach you decide to take.

I'm a romantic at heart, so I would try to go away for the weekend, have a romantic dinner somewhere & pop the question with roses & a bottle of champagne back in your room.  Or, make him his favorite meal, have the house full of candles & then after dinner propose (with the champagne).
    Good luck!!!!

Do something that the two of you love to do together you can make it a surprise by not telling him where exactly you are going until you get there. When the moment is right for you, you can propose to him - just have a celebratory beverage that you both enjoy at the ready!

    Congrats and welcome Emily!

Wow, I do have to admit, after more than a year on the Knot, this is the first time I've seen this asked!

Do you have a favorite place to have dinner? If he's not a private person, you could go there for dinner, and make reservations ahead at a great hotel or B&B and go there afterward. Ask him when dinner's over, before dessert.

You obviously like athletic things, so you could do it while you are away somewhere alone if he is private...... and make reservations to stay somewhere after, LOL. Call me a sucker, but going back to a place really romantic like a B&B or hotel afterward always seems like a good idea to me.

You could buy a nice wedding ring ahead of time if you think you know what he'd like and have that in a box to present to him. Not an engagement ring, but it puts the onus on him to buy you one, LOL.

Are there public places you go together that have large electronic boards? I know Oklahoma City has a minor league team, maybe take him to a game and put it up there if you don't think he'd be embarrassed.

OR, you could just get a hotel room, or a room at a nice romantic B&B, tell them ahead of time what's happening, and they can set it up for you with a lot of really romantic things in the room, champagne, chocolates, a meal on a small table so it's really private.

Can you tell I love the big romantic gesture? Can you maybe even infer I didn't get this? (read my story in my bio below, LOL)

Good luck. Looking forward to hearing your story afterward.

Thanks girls! This helps a lot and gives me a lot to think over!! =)) I kinda like the billboard thing, lol. But I also like the idea of asking somewhere we've been before, too... =)) I was thinking about already having his ring, but it kinda sucks b/c that'll be his wedding ring too and weird for him to wear around, lol!! That's something else to think about. I may just still buy his ring and get over it! haha!! Again, thanks! I've got a lot to think about!! =))

Maybe get him a cladaugh to wear and then get him a wedding ring later. FH wears the one I got him be fore we were engaged.

Ok, you said you are both cops and that he love surprises?  How about this one:

Set it up at a shooting range with someone there.  Have a "Will You Marry Me?" sign in place of his target.

Not sure how you could do that, but that was the first thing that popped into my head.
