Ugh! Depressed!

My Fiance and I were pretty set on having our wedding at The Grand Loft, however I wouldn't make a decision until we tried the baker and the caterer, as that was part of their wedding package. So I had my meeting with them the other day and it was so horrifying. I had asked the baker to bring a specific flavor since I knew what flavor I wanted- she didn't bring it at all. She only brought white cake with white icing- which I had NO interest in. So that already has me a  little upset, but we continue onto the caterer. We go to the caterer (Mind you at his house, which was beyond weird.) and he did not even make anything that I asked for! When I asked why, he told me that he didn't think it held up on a buffet well. I'm sorry, isn't that crazy sounding? Why would you have something on your menu if you won't serve it?

My fiance says that what he served us was edible and I should just be happy. But I am so depressed, because I feel like I have to start over! I never was 100% in love with the place, more in love with the price and what we got for it. I was able to get everything except for dresses and tuxes for close to $5000. Can I get close to that any place else??

First of all, don't be depressed! If you weren't in love with it, than it's not right, no matter the price. I've been to weddings there, and while cake and food were good, they weren't outstanding. And the cakes have never been creative/exotic flavors, so you might be asking too much of that person! I'm guessing since you were looking at the Grand Loft, you are probably south of the city. So am I, I'm getting married in Louisburg, where I'm from. So other places I can think of in that area are Evergreen Events in Paola, Timbercreek Event Center in Louisburg, or Milldale Farms in Edgerton. All are nice places that include catering, but I'm not sure about the prices. If you stick with Grand Loft your guests won't be disappointed, but you might have to compromise on some of your cusine desires.

Where you live and want to have the wedding/reception at really make a difference. We are getting married at the church I grew up in and our reception is at a golf course that will cater/set up reception/clean/etc. Our total cost will be no more than 3000 for everything besides our clothing, rings, and flowers.

If you aren't happy don't sign anything. Otherwise you will keep looking and either be unhappy or lose money in the long run.

I was asking for red velvet cake, which again is on her menu, and she only brought me white cake. I wanted no fillings- just frosting.

My Fiance's mother is a part time caterer, and we were hoping not to use her due to the stress and everything, but she was so apalled by the way this all worked out that she offered to do it.

That should cut costs quite a bit :)

Sorry you had a bad experience.  I know it can be frustrating to love a place and then have other things change your mind.  Hang in there.  You'll find a place you really like I'm sure.  Good luck!
