Back fat problem - please help!

Hi guys!

When I first found my wedding dress, I had just had the stomach flu for a week and had lost 5-10 pounds. I wanted to wait to look for it, but time was just getting too short. I warned them when I tried it on I had lost weight, but they said it would be fine. They wound up ordering my dress a size smaller than what they had in the store because they said the one I was wearing was too big in the stomach area, and they'd put in an expander in the corset top.

Fast forward to now. At my last fitting, I tried the dress on (back at my normal weight). It was tight, but not too tight. Then, though, the alterations manager (who is a friend of mine) told me how to make back fat go away (pushing the skin forward from the back towards the chest). I was shocked when I saw it appeared I had a muffin top. It wasn't like this when I first got the dress (see the picture - the first time I tried on the dress, not the fitting), and I've never had this problem before.

My wedding is in 30 days, and I don't have access to a gym. I've been doing some simple cardio and watching what I eat. Do you have any suggestions as to how to take care of this problem? Thanks!

  • I agree with Kwith that we need a bit more clarification to give you better advice :)

  • First, gorgeous dress!  You look amazing!

Second, sadly, spot reducing does not exist.  Cardio and diet will do you well, as do pushups and tricep dips, but those are just good home exercises, in general.  The sincere best thing you can do at this point?  Posture, posture, posture.  So much of 'back fat' has to do with poor posture.  Any maybe forewarn your MOH and photographer to remind you to 'stand up straight, shoulders back,' every now and again ;)

  • Thanks for the compliments, all!

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, it is a corset dress. When I tried it on at the first fitting, the extra-wide panel they put in to accommodate my dress just barely closed, so she had to pull it tightly at the top. It was pinned... I'm hoping that it being stitched in will take care of that issue.

And thanks for the posture reminder, Lobsters - I appreciate it!
  • Is it considered a modesty panel in the back? Didn't know that.

Yeah, I didn't expect massive results. Still, given that I don't normally work out any, I figured doing what I am and watching what I eat would at least keep me at my current weight. Or at least keep me from stress eating, lol. Tongue Out
  • I had a corset - still a posture issue for me but remember something, the fabric often stretches as you wear it.  You may have a little back fat in the beginning that won't be there within a few hours.  So, if you do decide to loosen it a bit, make sure your BMs can retie and tighten you during dinner or something, so that you don't have any slippage issues!

  • Thanks for the tip - good to remember!
  • Hi all!
I had my second fitting Friday, and here are some pictures. What are your thoughts? I actually think it may be my bra that's causing it, so when I get the dress back, I'm going to try it with either cups or no bra at all to see if that makes a difference.

  • Thanks, kwitherington - I appreciate it!
  • Not sure if this is helps or not but I have a strapless dress similar to yours. The difference between wearing a bra and going braless were not obvious in the front but have made my back look a lot better! That and posture!
