The Catering Dilemma Continues

Ugh.  I just want to be done and have a caterer already.  We found a caterer we really like, went to a tasting and everything.  The issue is the rpice, just a little bit higher than our budget.  We want to book her but she would push us over our budget.

I found another caterer and he is almost $3 cheaper per person but does not include some of the stuff the other caterer offers in her price like a hot appetizer and linens.  Fmil offered to make my linens so that is not an issue but I feel like I would get more with the other caterer but this new caterer has a more budget friendly price.  Not sure what to do.  I am making an appointment to go and talk with this new potential caterer and set up a tasting to not only compare price, but taste.  We'll see.

Anyone else having trouble booking a caterer?

  • So go back to the caterer you like, tell her what your bottom dollar is and ask her what she can do that is in your budget.  I'll bet you will be pleasantly surprised!
  • What pp said.  Most vendors will be willing to work with you if you're upfront about your budget.  Plus it never hurts to ask.

  • I wouldn't even sweat this decision until you've tasted the second caterer's food. If the food is delicious then go with the cheaper caterer.  If the food isn't as good, problem solved.  I agree with PPs about asking the first caterer if they can work with you on price if you end up not liking the second caterer's food.
  • Good advice.  I'll wait for the tasting.
