Dollar Dance.

So...I have been to a few wedding where they had the dollar dance. I thought it was a very cute thing to do. Think I may want to do it at my wedding next year.  Some others I have talked to HATED the idea...others LOVED it...any thoughts?

If the dollar dance isn't part of your culture or your FI's culture and ou want to just add it, I think it's in extremely poor taste.

Your guests should never be asked to dig into their wallets at their wedding reception - even if doing so is optional.   Cash bars and dollar dances you can call "optional payment" on the part of the guests but they're considered to be QUITE rude indeed.

My cousin did a dollar dance at his wedding (I was 15), and when I asked my mother why they were doing it, she said "to help them out since they dont have a lot of money." I remember being horrified of that idea, and hated being obligated to dance with my cousin for a couple minutes. It was really awkward and uncomfortable, and I thought it was really tacky.

If I went to a wedding today at 24, I would still think the same exact thing.

Couldn't agree more! Unless this is part of your culture I wouldn't do it!

I am a wedding DJ myself and do think the dollar dance is a good idea with a bad name. The part of paying to dance with the bride and groom is tacky but I DO like the idea of everybody getting the chance to have their special moment with the new husband and wife. I have done many weddings and I get to sit in the backround and watch everything unfold. The looks on the faces of the guests that are dancing with the newlyweds are very happy, and it gives them a minute to congratulate them in a somewhat private and more intimate way. Sometimes Uncle Fred or Aunt Betsy do not want to "bother" you on your big day (even know you wouldn't feel bothered at all ) and this gives them the perfect time to have some words with you. So if you know you may have some benefits out of this then you should go with it. Again, I am a wedding DJ and im gonna think of a way to present the dollar dance minus the dollar!! Not sure what to call it, but I will find the right clients to start this new trend hopefully!!! Good luck with your big day Wink

Shawnsmobile, as a vendor, you're not allowed to post on the boards.

And if the couple want a chance to dance with their guests then they approach the DJ and say, "It's time to dance with the couple!"  But the guests shouldn't have to pay to do it.
