weird habits

is there anything that you do that your FI/DH finds weird/strange?

he thinks its weird i brush my teeth in the shower...

Re: weird habits

  • Sometimes when I'm cleaning, cooking or whatever, I zone out and start singing to myself. Not real songs though. I make up songs about what I'm actually doing at that moment.

Sometimes, when Tim catches me doing this, he'll start singing to me about how ridiculous my song is.

    It's good for a laugh.
  • I fold plastic grocery bags instead of bunching them up and throwing them under the sink.

  • ANYTHING I eat I take a few "normal" bites then I have to pick everything a part.  I'm lovely to take to Subway,
It's time. Adoption saving and process started in November 2012.

He finds my fascination with texture (particularly when it comes to food) a bit bizarre, but he willing deals with it.  I also have anxiety about cluttered spaces (ironic because I'm a horrible housekeeper) that he just kind of smiles and nods about...
  • Nope. He's the weird one. That or I terrify him enough that he'd never tell me I'm weird.

Hmmm, seriously, he doesn't get my hatred for putting away laundry. And I have a thing about eggs he doesn't quite comprehend. Other than that, refer to the above.

  • I hate being barefoot.  I think the floor/ground is super gross and no matter how often I vacuum/mop, it never feels clean.  I wear socks and crocs or socks and slippers around the condo.

He thinks it's weird.  Pretty much the only time I'm barefoot is in bed or in the shower.
  • I only drink from white or light colored coffee cups.  And I'm with Alexia on the socks.  Always socks w/ crocs.  Very fetching look ;)
  • Not sure, I make up songs to sing to the cat. But of course he thinks I love the cat more then him. Which could be true.

In my defense, the only people that see me rocking this look are anyone that comes to the condo when I'm being lazy, and those unsuspecting innocents that happen to be out when I take the pups downstairs :)
  • Hmm I'm sure he could come up with a lot more but...

He thinks its weird that I have to try on 15 outfits when we go out to a fancy dinner, only to put on the first outfit I tried on.

Or...that I cook everything but soup in a frying pan/saucer. Need to make rice with sauce, cook it in the microwave and toss it in a frying pan, making the pasta out of a packet? Into the frying pan it goes. I think it stems back from my college days when I had 1 pot, 1 pan, and 2 plates. I thought it was much easier to wash the pan than the pot.
  • He thinks my neat freakness is ridiculous.
He doesn't understand why I insist on having the blinds open (Hello, sunshine! I think he is a vampire)
He thinks its really odd how a lot of the time I prefer cereal over whatever dinner he is suggesting (subway, burger king, fresh n easy...)

Tim is the exact same way and it makes me nuts!
  • I drink coffee thru a straw, also I grew up in DC, and my mom was a teacher and some of my DC colloquialisms sound funny to him mixed with the SAT vocab that I learned from my mom to use in everyday life.
  • We have black out curtains (black leather curtains) in the bedroom  from when Dh worked overnights. He doesn't understand why I crack them open before bed. I like the sun to wake me up, not the beeping alarm.

DH says how much I pop my toes. They pop endlessly, and I don't even realize that I'm doing it. I do it when I'm zoned out.

He says that's all he can think of.

ETA: He definitely thinks that my issues with milk are strange.

-No white milk in public, chocolate is okay, sometimes.
    -No sharing milk
    -No drinking cereal milk
-No drinking milk through a straw
-Only drinking milk out of a glass
-It has to be really cold. If it's been out for more than about 5-10 minutes, I throw it out.
    -No ice in my milk.
-If the milk is really low in the jug and has been for more than a day or so, I don't drink it.

I don't know why I am this way, but breaking any of these rules is a cardinal sing for me.

When I am concentrating on something, I dart my tongue out and kind of lick my lips/move my tongue around from side to side. I do it without even realizing it, and he always catches it and makes fun of me - it isnt in a mean way, he thinks its weird but I cant help it, ive done it since I was a kid.
He also thinks its weird that I cant for the life of me verbalize where we need to go but know exactly where we are going - I have to point directions out to him, or I say the wrong thing and we end up in the wrong place. I always mix up left from right when were in the car.

    Does it look like this?

  • Hmm, he thinks its crazy that I take so long to get ready and that I have to try on a bunch of shirts before I decide on one. He says that I have a nervous habit with my hands and feet where they are always moving or something. Cant think of anything else.

  • I insist on unpluging everything we are not using.  Fans, TV's, cable boxes, etc.  We also have a rule that only one a/c can be on at a time.

It drives DH nuts because it takes the cable box 5 minutes to reset the guide.  I do not care.  I see no reason paying 36 cents a KWH on a cable box clock when we are not at home.

Even with that our electric is $300 a month.. Can you imagine if I didn't do those small things?  Now if I can only get him to not use the a/c....

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

That is the EXACT face I make.

    Not really.
  • H definitely has plenty of his own quirks, which actually helps in us being understanding of each other's. He knows that I hate feet and can't stand to have his or anyone else's touching me. I can deal with the top of his foot, but not the bottom.

I also made him start closing the toilet lid when he flushes so the fecal mist doesn't spray all in the bathroom. He thinks I'm making it up, but he does it.

I also have to match his socks exactly when I "fold" them. He's got about 4-5 different kinds of white socks (different ankle heights, logos), and if they're not matched it really bothers me. Even more so if there's an uneven number left, or like one Adidas sock and one Jockey. I'll just put them separately in his drawer and not fold them together.

  • Ditto on the sunshine/vampire issue. FI is self employed and I will come to a dark house, no matter what time of day, without fail. My ritual is to go around opening blinds and turning on lights - it's so depressing when it's dark all the time!
We're just two lost souls swimmin' in a fish bowl, year after year
  • Sometimes when I drink soda from a bottle, I hold it on the side of my mouth instead of the front.  I don't even realize I'm doing it most of the time, and Mr. Arb always makes fun of me when he catches me doing it.
