Posted on my local board but this one is really active, please help!

I went on a second interview. They called me today to get direct phone numbers for the references. Problem..... they are all where I currently work, as I've been here over 4 years. Current work = doesn't know I'm looking for a new job right now. What on earth do I do, give the numbers and just let them find out via this woman..... talk to them first and let them know, knowing I may not get this job, or tell these people that my work doesn't know yet, and calling them before I have a position elsewhere isn't something that can happen. IDK what to do...

    Your only option is to talk to the people you listed as references and let them know they may be contacted, which you should have already done. That's what references are for. Companies call them to finalize their decision about whether to hire you or not.

    Always put people who know they're on your references list, and make sure they can speak on your behalf before you go for an interview.

    Yea, I'm also confused.  Why would you put people down who don't know they're your references?

    You shouldn't be using your current employers as references if they don't know you're looking for another job. This could back fire on you big time.
    Most potential employers understand this. Can you give them a list of alternative references and explain your current employer isn't aware of your job search?

    This is an incredibly odd way to do references.  Who are they in relation to your current position: supervisor and coworkers?

    Don't you kind of have to list your old jobs? I haven't contacted every single one of my old jobs to let them know I'm looking for another job. I thought it was common knowledge that everywhere calls your old jobs?

    Edit: Are we talking about JOB HISTORY or REFERENCES? I was talking about putting down old places of work. You have to let your actual references know that someone might call them.

    I've been with this company for over 4 years. This is my first "real" job, and the only relevant list of references that are applicable for this new job. Relevant references from this job would be my supervisors. This is a small company, and the one's I'm close with, are also my supervisors, who know this was my last year, but didn't know I had started looking already. Now, they just will.... Thanks guys I talked to the one's who were listed and let them know, which now sucks because they know I'm looking, and if this job falls through, they know I'm still looking currently. Just an uncomfortable environment but I guess it has to be done.

    First - you should always get permission from those people you're using as references to use them. 

    Since you didn't do that...now you're going to have to either A) talk to those people and let them know, or B) tell potential job that you need to give them different references.
