BB&B Advice....

My fiance and I are registering tomorrow at BB&B.  Any advice on some items you love from there?  Also we are having around 220 guests and will be registering here and Target-should you register for that many items?  And if you have already registered- about how long did it take you at BB&B?

Thanks Ladies- have a fantastic weekend:)

Re: BB&B Advice....

  • It took us a long time.  I love my china, and my kitchenaid.  I also registered for very good pots, which I hope to get as they are great.

  • it can take anywhere from 1-2 hours.. try not to get stressed out and have fun with it! Make sure you register for the nicer items at BBB because they have better quality things than Target. I LOVE me some Target, but I wouldn't get dishes or flatware or pots and pans there... And don't be afraid to register for a good range of prices! People WILL surprise you when buying you wedding gifts, or they could go in as a group and get you something big :)

  • OH- and you can always go back and add more items later, or add more online! So if you don't have the time, it's okay! :)

  • we registered for the Microdry bath mat...that thing is amazing. we also registered for our towels there. the avanti monogram towels are really fun to have also :) we have them for our hand towels.

our everyday dishes...Chocolate Swirl by Mikasa is there, and we love it!

we registered for all of our calphalon there....dont forget to ask about registry incentives! we got a lot of free stuff for registering certains brands, and we got the free griddle from calphalon for the $500 completion!

oh, and bed bath and beyond return policy is SO MUCH BETTER target's return policy.
  • I think we were at BB&B for 3 1/2 hours. It's exhausting!!! Eat before you go, and bring  a water bottle.

We are inviting 200 people, and our registry has a little over 200 items on it. Plus we have a few other registries, but those aren't nearly as big since we got practically everything here lol. I think the other have <30 items on them.

  • I would say for BB&B, or for any other store for that matter, know your FI's shopping style.  My FI is more of an in-and-out kind of shopper, so we had to do our registry in spurts.  When I REALLY wanted his opinion on it, I'd try to have a list of what I wanted to know about ahead of time, go in, find it quickly, and get his opinion.  My FI was more like "you are the master decorater, and you make a BEAUTIFUL home, so you go and pick all that stuff out."  Plus, I know more about the reasons why some materials are better than others as far as quality and durability, and FI just picked colors.  So anyway... know your FI's style, know your style, and take your time.  Several visits, plus online additions, whatever works.  If you feel like you or your FI is getting impatient or cranky after being at the store so long, don't panic about getting it all done that day.  You really don't HAVE to have the full registry done until the day that the first shower invitations go out (or the first gift-giving event that you expect).

Have fun, dream about your future home, and only put on the registry stuff that you know you'll use!  The sales consultants have good recommendations and can help you with brand knowledge and selection, but don't let your own preferences get lost in the middle of that.  So many brides come on the boards and say that "the consultant made me put a set of knives on there and they're so expensive blah blah' ... well, you don't have to add anything you don't want to.  Ask for opinions, from them if you want them, but if you don't, just let them know that you're doing just fine by yourself!!  :-)

Oh, and I absolute LOVE fine china and kitchenwares.  And that's also the part of the store where I've done the most independent research about quality and materials and workmanship.

  • We were there for a couple hours, and we only got about halfway through the store before we got overwhelmed... neither of us are marathon shoppers!  We actually still need to go back and finish, although you can add stuff online too.  I'll probably pick out all the little kitchen gadgets and stuff from the website rather than scanning them all in the store.  2 items we are SUPER excited about: the Oster breadmaker, and the Keurig!!

  • It took FI and I TWO different trips, each about 2 hours long! very exhausting. Agree before you go that you're going to leave when you get tired, and it's not a big deal to come back another day!

(I don't think it would have taken so long, but on the first trip, the lady spent 1.5 hours trying to get us to pick our china and walking us around the store and explaining everything... yawn.)

  • HAVE FUN!! Give you FI the scanner so he can have something to do and not be bored looking at different shades of the same color. That's what mine did :)

But I'm in love with the Mikasa Love Story sets- knife set, ring holder, bowls, etc. They're absolutely stunning!

  • Hope you had fun registering!!!

I have been warned about Target's registries... So unless you are set on registring there you might want to look into other stores.

I know BB and B extremely well. The consultants will tell you that building the registry can take from 1 to 2 hours. It will vary depending how much help and advice you want from the consultant, and whether you are registering for fine china/luggage. Making a decision on fine china seems to take up the most time. I have seen brides and grooms sign up beforehand at home for the registry so that all they have to do is go into the building and take a scanner, which can save you a lot of time behind the desk. There are some really great consultants out there that will truly listen to what you want, remember what kinds of things you would like amd know when they are actually wasting your time. Consultants don't work on commission and are only there to make sure you are happy with your registry, and are more than willing to spend that 2 hours alongside you. (You can tell them to bugger off too if you just want to scan by yourself.)
Also, my favorites: Keurig, Calphalon Unison, Oxo Gadgets, Micro-dry mats and towels, Lenox Opal Innocence is the most popular fine china I've found, but I can't decide on my favorite yet. That is about it, but be sure to look online for options you don't see in the store. There are some things for delivery that I absolutely want on my registry.
  • The first time FI and I went into BB&B, we didn't really know what we were looking for and it was a little stressful.

Before going back and before going to Macy's, we literally walked through our condo (this may be harder to do if you don't know where you will live together yet) and talked about how we wanted each room to look style-wise.  We also talked about what we wanted the house we move into eventually to look like.

This made it a lot more fun because we were already on the same page with styles and knew what we were looking for!
