Dress for Church Wedding

I'm really hoping you ladies can help.  I'm so lost.  We're planning a small church ceremony, and I'm really struggling with what kind of dress to go with.  My tastes are traditional, classic and simple but everything I'm seeing mostly is either really big with a train or casual and meant for a beach.  Designers or styles that might be appropriate?  I'm 40 and petite.

Thanks.

    Welcome and congratulations!!

Designers you may want to look at Casa Blanca bridal, Mon Cheri Bridal, La Sposa, Watters, WT00, and Alfred Angelo to name a few.  Look for either a slim A-Line with a sweep train or no train, or a mermaid or sheath style.  You might also want to try Nordstroms they have a wedding/bridal area and have some beautiful gowns that do not have trains but have the more traditional feel.  There's also David's Bridal.

Trains can be removed when you have the gown hemmed.

Google wedding dresses and you will get a TON of listings!  Seriously though, I would look at Davids Bridal, Pearls Place, DaVinci, Alfred Angelo websites to get some ideas.  Is there a particular designer you like? I personally like Davids because they have a wide selection of designs and most of their gowns are available in petite sizes.  Nordstroms is also a good choice - a few of the June 2011 brides have bought their gowns there.

Go to a fabric store and sit down at the pattern books - McCalls and Butterick have gorgeous wedding gown patterns - many are mix and match - you may find your perfect gown there that you can have made for you or make it yourself!

Good Luck and I am sure you will find the dress of your dreams!
