Invitation opinions-PIP

I am getting ready to send my invites out by the end of the month. I am not going overboard with the vintage look of them. I am using typewriter font which has an old fashioned feel. I have an idea of how they will look, but there are a few things I am not sure about. The pictures are a little easier to see in my bio (under DIY)

A. Should I use the cardboard colored paper for behind the invites or should I used the creamy patterned paper?

B. Should I stick with the 2 doilies at opposite corners or should I use them in all 4 corners? OR should I get rid of the doilies completely?

ANY OTHER THOUGHTS OR OPINIONS GREATLY APPRECIATED! AND YOU WONT HURT MY FEELINGS IF YOU HATE SOMETHING/EVERYTHING!

The outside--tied with a string and button closure (I can change the color of the paper button if need be)

The invite with a cardboard color paper backing...

Cardboard color paper backing with a striped ribbon (this may be too busy)

OR I could use this pretty ivory/antique colored paper for the backings...

and finally the antique/ivory paper with 4 doilies instead of 2

  • I really like the invite with the two doilies in the corner and the stripped ribbon does not look busy at all and I vote for the cardboard colored paper.

  • I vote 2 doiles, cardboard backing.

I do like the cardboard backing the best. AND I think 2 and 4 doilies look equally good. And 2 is half the work. Having DIYed my own invites, I'll now *always* vote for less work =)
  • The invite with a cardboard color paper backing  or the antique/ivory backing and the 2 doilies I think would look just right. Not too overdone, but still have the vintage feel.
Of course its up to you, but I think the 2 doilies looks better than 4.
Did you make your invites yourself? They're so awesome.

Thank you! Yes, I did them myself. Well, I ordered the pocketfolds but made everything else.

  • I think the patterned paper backing is my favorite. I really like the 4 doilies, but it's still super cute with just two. Very nice work!

  • I like the last one! Hmmm maybe I'll look into making my own as well. Where did you get the pocketfolds?

  • my 2 cents:  I definitely like the doilies in all four corners!  I like the antique paper, but I think the darker cardboard background looks better with your design.  Also if you do use doilies in all 4 corners, the ribbon behind the invitation might be too much.

Either way you do it though, it's going to be a beautiful invitation!

  • wow... I love it :)

I vote dark paper, no ribbon, four corners.

But I also just LOVE doilies. My invitatiions are wrapped in doilies :)

    Great Job!
  • Love the invites all ways, but I too think the ribbon is too much.
Where did you get the doilies, I've been looking for something like that?  Did you have to cut them yourself?

I purchased regular white doilies in the bakery section of Michaels. Then I painted them black (spray paint or craft paint works great). And yes, I had to cut them myself.
