Wedding Woes

Oh what the hell.

I've joined the meetup group for an animal shelter, and they have a GTG dinner once/month. I like the idea of potentially making like-minded friends (and just getting out of the house).

Except.

They only eat at vegan restaurants. Y'all know I'm no vegan. I'm going to go once and see if I can get away with just sipping my vegan water & lemon. You can't tell me everyone in the group is a vegan, so I'm wondering if they're open to suggestions.

There is probably some overbearing member who is a vegan and insists that things stay this way.  But go and check it out!

You're in the land where vegan food pretends it's not vegan.  You might not mind the food if you try it.

My experience with meetup (and really, with every attempt I've ever made at making friends as an adult), is that no matter how normal and interesting the group's main interest seems to be, it will be full of weird and uninteresting people. Either I am a snob, or the things I find interesting are only interesting to weirdos. Probably both are true.

I would try the food at least once.

I love me some bacon cheeseburgers as much as the next girl, but some vegan food can be yummyish.

    I'd give it a shot.

They're probably not all vegan. Some might be, and some may be regular vegetarians, but there's probably a meat-eater or 2 in the mix.

It sounds like it would be fun and a good way to meet some new people.

    What Dukis said.

The pug meetup is made up of some true whackjobs. We have met one or two cool people. If nothing else, it gives Jake a chance to play and us a chance to talk shyt about people on the way home. It's a win-win situation!

in LA they might all be vegans.

I'm with HMO - get some fries - you could even get a cheese-like topping.

this reminds me of something... i need to see if i have the pic on my phone.

    Mmm tofu.

Some vegan food is delicious, but I would also be annoyed. It's not like you're going to pet shops and ripping the heads off of puppies and having a bbq with them.

I wouldn't be too off put with vegan food. I mean, it is one meal, it's no biggie. I've been to vegan joints before and just get a salad with vinagarette.

Get sweet potatoe fries! That's how I survive the vegan restaurants.
