Military wedding photo ideas

Hello!

I am trying to find wedding photo ideas that will help reflect the military aspect of the wedding other than the groom simply being in uniform.

My Fiance is not an officer so we won't have the arch of sabers photo (which always comes up as the first 100 pictures whenever I try to search "army wedding photos"!) so I am trying to find other ideas. We have thought of ideas with the flag but don't want to have super cheesy photos.

Looking for any suggestions!
Thank you!

How on board is your FI with this? H wanted a few Navy details: grooms cake, uniform... etc.) And just having those in the pictures made it have that military aspect..without being tooooo much.

No offense, but this is his job.... I love the company I work for, but I certainly wouldn't plaster their logo everywhere, or try and incorporate them into my wedding. (Well unless they were sponsoring my wedding... ahaha!) Your FI may feel the same way, many SM do....

Sorry, I should have commented on that in my original post. My FI's family are all very proud supporters of military service. They have multiple soldeirs in the family and my FI wants to incorporate it into the wedding. For example: He is going to carry in his uncle's flag (KIA Vietnam) into the church and set it at the front of the church --like his uncle is being seated--before the beginning of the ceremony. Soo... yeah he's not only on board... he's steering the ship!

  • FI didn't want a whole lot so we just have some touches here and there. I had FIs name tape sewn into the inside of my dress for my something borrowed, I have a pink camo garter, and green gummy Army guys for the candy buffet
  • I don't know what specific pictures you can take without being a little on the cheesy side.

For our engagement photos our photographer wanted us to take a picture with the flag... "hand over heart" looking offf into the distance... It might have been neat if I put my hand over my heart instead of just on my right boob (Ohh.... don't judge!).  It could have been well done...but it just wasn't.

I think taking specific Military pictures might come off a little cheesy... but having the little details show in the wedding come through in the pictures would probably look best. KWIM?

One of the regulars on the board - Stan - had a very nice Military themed wedding. Hopfully she will pop in and give some ideas.

Amanda... you make me do the combination laugh/snort with the boob comment.

My FI had some portraits done with his family before he deployed and the photographer posed him in front of the flag to do some portraits. But instead of just portraits they told him to stand at attention and then later at ease. He looked totally constipated and awkward when the photographer wanted him at attention. Hahaha... he was so embarrassed when the photos came back. That's a good reminder about the dangers of cheesy military photography I guess.

  • Most military type poses are going to look cheesey.  I would have the photographer take shots of the little details y'all have added.  A non posed pic of your guy with his uncle's flag.  A pic of the flag on the chair.  You will already have pics of him in his uniform and the two of you together.  Maybe a pic of him holding the rings where all you see is his hands with the rings and his chest candy as the back ground.

I think that would turn out really nice!  We have a pic of our ceremony program where one of the uniformed ushers is holding it, and you can see just his 'chest candy'.  I love the picture, but if you replaced an usher w/ a H, and the program with the rings it would turn out even better <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />.
  • bahaha I love the term "chest candy".

    Sorry, that's huge.

You can't really tell, but this we took a bunch of photos with old WWII planes and modern helos. This is next to a UH-1N

I agree that it's a fine line though. If your photographer is talented, she can help make even standing in a helicopter less cheesy.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Love the pics... I don't think they are cheesy at all.

I must now make "chest candy" part of my vocabulary! Hah!

  • I have a lot of military inspired pictures on my pin board on Pinterest. Although we are going for a Sailor theme, the concept in generally the same. Here is my board:

    Good luck!
