Re: Where to buy cheapest save the date magnets?

  • I don't know if you like DIY, creative type projects but places like Michael's, AC Moore, etc, has plain magnets with picture paper for save the dates. That is how we are doing our STDs and using their invitation kits too. They come out really nice. Worth a shot.

  • I'd be worried that DIY magnets might end up costing more in the long run. I would compare the prices between that and websites like Vistaprint or MagnetStreet. You can get email coupons or groupons to make the price even cheaper.
  • Again- this was a DIY project, but they ended up being really inexpensive. I signed up for Vistaprints newsletter and got 250 business cards for free.  I put our info on that and then went to Staples and bought peel-away magnets for business cards, and stuck the cards on it.  Really easy.

I ended up doing a little bit more by cutting a hole punch in each corner, tying a ribbon, and adding a double heart charm.  As long as it lays flat, postage will be inexpensive.

I also waited until Vistaprint had the free postcard deal, added some info on that, and used the glue dots to stick my magnet onto it.

    Good luck!
  • Have you tried Magnetstreet??/

  • I would second Vistaprint, esp if you're not crafty or don't have the time.

@Vanessa I like that idea, smart!

  • Definitely vistaprint, and you can order the printed magnets from them without having to DIY and peel and stick.  I got ours from there.  With the coupon that I had I only paid about $45 for 75 magnets with envelopes.  We got the large postcard sized magnets.  They were perfect!  It was a great size for fitting pictures.  I was able to fit 4 engagement photos & all the important info easily.

  • Vistaprint is great...I used magnet street too though and we loved our save the dates!
  • I just got the postcards from vistaprint...100 for free! I only paid shipping...about $6. and then I went to Michaels with the 40% off coupon and got a whole roll of sticky magnets to stick on the back of them for about $3. So...$7 later I got 100 magnet save the dates!! yay!

  • I did them myself, and they worked out to be around $0.75 per magnet, but it was a LOT of work!  If you don't enjoy crafting, I wouldn't recommend it.

I designed them myself on Adobe Illustrator (which is a complicated program, so it has a big learning curve if you aren't trained in it), then I printed them with VistaPrint on large postcards - I got it for free with a discount code and arranged it so there were 3 save-the-dates per page, so I just paid $10 in shipping.  I then bought magnet sheeting (8 feet from DickBlick - right HERE) that cost $27 with shipping.  Then I bought 3M Permanent Adhesive Spray from the local art supply store (or Target or Walmart) for $8 per can, so $16.  I already had a paper slicer, but that's necessary, too, so at least another $20 for that if you don't have one.

I made 150 magnets for a total of $0.35 each.  The design process took me hours, but I could have done it in a few hours (I do it as a side job now on Etsy, so I'm happy to help you if you want - PM me).  Then the assembly took about 5-6 hours.  So it wasn't super simple, but they turned out AMAZING!

  • Hi,
Thanks for the info....I've been wondering the same thing actually! Where do you find the coupons?

    Thanks!

  • I used magnet street and found coupons online to use.  They ended up being about $1.00 per magnet.

  • I did some magnets at Vistaprint-- they turned out so nicely!!! Not bad if you use a free design or get a groupon for it!
