Bridesmaids dresses...can't decide

Hey girls...

We went bridesmaids dress hunting and now I'm stuck on what style to choose.

I'm leaning towards satin for the fabric...

I just wrote a blog entry about the dilemma...care to share any thoughts? :-)
I'm a little stressed and just want to make a decision and be done with it.

I also think satin is a nice lightweight fabric. That is what we chose for my girls. We are getting married in october and I wanted something that would still be nice and light if we ended up having an indian summer.  I can see where you are stuck with the dresses they are all beautiful but I love the first one the most. I think its a little more flowy, for lack of a better word and might be more fun to dance in.. Good luck choosing! It too me FOREVER to decide as well!!

You could always let the BM's decide, they are the ones that have to wear it.

Would you be against letting them each choose which style they liked best? Are you okay with mismatching dresses? Our memorial day weekend wedding was 88 and hot and humid and my girls were dying in their short dresses! I don't know how they would survive long dresses. Are you set on long? I ended up just saying black satin and short and each girl picked their own dress and saved me any more stress and headaches! It might be worth a shot!

it's tough...my dress is so formal I feel like something short isn't going to match the formality of it, so I feel that long is the way to go in order to achieve that look.

Short dresses are MUCH cuter, though... The problem with short is that we're going to be in church...some of the girls have expressed that they'd want it above the knee (too high up and you're pushing inappropriate). Other girls like tea-length but on shorter girls, tea-length just doesn't work.

If I let them choose, I don't want then to be too mis-matched... they'd all have to be same color, fabric and length. They can choose their tops.

I went with 3 different styles by Dessy that are all the same fabric and the same silhouette on the bottom.  There are 3 different necklines for them to choose from v-neck, strapless, and a sort of scoopneck.  They are cocktail length but still fairly formal in my opinion.  I dont know what your budget is but here are the links if ou are interested.

Out of the 3 you posted on your blog, I like the second one the best.  I know it had the most cons but it looks great.

I think they're all beautiful options.

My only concern would be that satin can be difficult to wear if it isn't tacked well and can be warm (as you said). Perhaps going short might be a compromise in terms of the heat factor. I think satin is a dressy enough fabric that it will still look formal even if you go short (to the knee).

I am also in the process of finding dresses for my girls but I'm having a semiformal wedding so it was easier for me to go with shorter lengths and light fabrics. My BMs all wanted knee length dresses (partially for wearability after the wedding). I decided that I would choose a length, fabric and color and they could choose the dress.

We're going with Aria Dress for that reason. They have many styles that can be ordered in the same length, color and fabric and everyone can choose a neckline that's comfortable for them. This was especially important considering my MOH (my sister) will not wear strapless under any conditions.

I liked the second one the most but the first is nice too. I wore a similar bridesmaid dress once and we didn't have problems with the satin material as you discussed.

Update: Today was awesome! I took a lot of your advice and spent an hour by myself at the bridal garden..thinking, chatting with the girls who were so helpful...totally abandoned Alfred Angelo and Impression after a Liz Fields dress was staring me in the eye!

First, I think it was the color selection of both makes' materials that was preventing me from making a decision. The Liz Fields dress (link and photo below) had a lovely top and just fell so well..who tried it on? Me! After seeing 6 out of 7 of my girls try on dresses, I knew what they were looking for...

This dress has a zipper back, ruching on the top, charmeuse fabric (so light and flowy), hides flaws, has optional straps, the ability to be danced in! and the ability to be shortened and still be great after the wedding!

The best part was their color selection - they have Tiffany Blue! Online the color is a little off from real life...it is THE perfect combination of blue and green for the color I've been wanting all along. Going to look amazing with peach, coral, ivory and lighter yellow flowers. I know they still have to try it on but I've got a great feeling this is it! My gut doesn't lie to me :-)

Just in case we DO decide to go knee length, they have it in the same top!

I'm one happy bride to be Laughing

I agree with one poster.  Let the girls pick.  If that company has the colors you want (and that is the hardest part - who knew there were so many shades of aqua) then def. stick with that maker.  If you really want long (or anything else in particular), I'd tell your BMs that.  And then let them pick, or vote depending on how many you have.  The reason I say let them pick is because they have to wear it, they have to pay for it, and it's one less thing for you to do.  Personally, I don't like the Liz Fields dress you posted.  I think there's just a tad too much ruching and then after the ruching flows free (near the abdomen/hip area) it looks really puffy.  I know myself, I don't need any help with puffy.  If you have a BM with even a tiny bit of extra weight, I'd be afraid it'd make her look bigger than she is.  If you really want to have some control choose 3 or 4 and let them pick between those options.  Good luck!

i am  glad you found one you liked. That style seems a little more loose fitting and a thinner satin then some of the other styles you picked.

A thick structured satin---is extremly hot to wear- because there is no moverment and don't forget about the lining.

I just wore a style with that thick structured satin like the 3rd dress you showed and it was extremly hot. the birdesmaids complained that we all had sweat dripping down us.

i think you made a great  choice!! that looks formal and comfortable
