NYC in December (continued..)

I have another question about NYC in december - if it snows, are the sidewalks still walk able?

I've been to new york several times, but it has been summer/fall each time and I walked EVERYWHERE.

Should I expect it to be the same, as long as I dress super super warm?

Re: NYC in December (continued..)

  • Maybe bring some boots, it can be slushy, but unless there is a huge storm it should be fine. Even then, they'll be cleaned quickly enough.

Yes.  Everyone who lives there has to get around, too.
  • walkable? somewhat. clean? that's another story. the corners get AWFUL from where the sidewalk meets the streeet-slushy puddles. bring wellies just in case.

our decembers arent super super super cold. they're certainly chilly but it's not like canada. keep your eye on the weather forecast before you go and plan accordingly. 8 months out no one can say what it will be like.

  • The sidewalks will be fine. You just need waterproof shoes for the giant lakes that form at every intersection. Some years the weather is really mild in December, sometimes it's below freezing. Mostly you just need to worry about the windbring a hat, scarf and gloves.

  • The sidewalks are always walkable but definitely bring warm, waterproof boots.  The sidewalks are warm because of the subway system underground, so the snow melts quickly and then turns to slush.  There are always slushy puddles on street corners, like PP said.  Dress in layers.
